Elite Start Up problem

Hi all,

Recently acquired an Elite running 1.3 firmware but noticed a problem that sometimes occurs -

When I turn it on the power light flashes twice and then remains solid but nothing else happens, no messages on the screen, no hum of the internal circuitry.

Power cycling it a few times seems to resolve it and other times it turns on correctly first time but I thought I’d ask here to see if anyone else had experienced anything similar?

I’ve got a USB printer cable on the way to try a firmware update to see if that helps but if not I guess it’ll be going back as not as described.

PSU is a 4 amp C7024 model.

C7024 is simply the Scalex version of the Hornby R9303 PSU, essentially the same box of tricks.

It maybe the PSU Jack plug is a slack fit. Be aware turning the power on too quickly after switching off will stall the boot, wait at least 30 seconds during a power cycle.

Try this power up self test. Press and hold the Loco button as you switch the power on, release when you see the screen become active.

The screen will populate all pixels and carry out an EEPROM check and report pass or fail.

After that you can press each button, twist each knob, etc and the screen will echo a code number e.g. per images below.

If the Elite fails this test then likely it is duff, but even if it passes you need to check such as normal control and programming are good. Trying to update the firmware will prove USB comms. Good luck.

Thanks Rob,

I've tried to perform that test before updating the firmware but it just skips to the standard start up (Hornby at the top and then shows Standard). Tried holding down Loco before turning it on, and also whilst turning it on and releasing once the screen becomes active but no luck.

Once thing I noticed is when it doesn't start up and is showing the solid yellow power light, I can press loco and get the first screen you've shown - and then press the buttons and dials etc.
