PhantomBucca
Hi, can anyone explain the nuances of the various nose radome fittings for the RAF Merlin HC.3/3A? I’ve noticed at least 3 fits: standard, with protruding antennae with a camera (FLIR?) the black bump version on HC.3A I want to know what these various arrangements are formally referred to as, what their purpose is, and when/why the various fits were used/changed. does anyone have any ideas? cheers, Andy Edited March 15 by PhantomBucca
Dominic Thomas
I have a recollection that the ‘black bump’ version is a radar fit (weather) as used by the Danish Merlins. I think six were purchased from the Danes, or their allocation, for RAF use as part of an urgent operational requirement when normal production line delivery couldn’t deliver fast enough. Of course, someone might have more detailed information.
oldmodeller
Of course if we retuned to the old pre multilingual type instructions from airfix each part would have been identified. i.e. locate and cement night radar antenna part number 132 to front of fuselage on port side
