The Spoggles Dad
hi, thinking of getting a little Micro set for my kids (and me) to play with. Can the track be screwed down to a boRd to prevent me having to keep taking it apart?
Andy P.
I have sucessfully used Velcro since it often some to pass that we want to change the layout and screwing and unscrewing could damage the teh track /board and take time. There are special clips you can use the screw it downon the side though if you want make things more permanant:https://www.scalextric.com/uk-en/track-fixing-side-clips.html
The Spoggles Dad
Great, thanks very much for the reply. Having now been to a shop and looked at kits, I'm more thinking normal 1/32 size. More expandable if the boy gets into it

Feendish
If you wish to fix your track permanently to a board I have used the following method.Using a 1mm bit in a hand drill or small battery drill put two pilot holes in the end of each track section in the bottom of the actual guide slot, one hole in the left slot at one end and the other in the right slot at the other end....OK so far?Next position the track section in its final location, locking it to previous track.Push a 10mm brad (not a panel pin - the head is too large) into the pilot holes and gently tap down into the board using a thin punch or flat bladed screwdriver. Don't punch too far, (the slot may distort) just enough to get the head of the brad flush and stop the track moving. You can fit additional fixings wherever you wish, it will just take a while longer. If done correctly the car guide blades will clear the brad but in the event of the blade catching slightly you can remove half a millimetre from the blade with a craft knife with no effect on the car's performance.I have successfully used this method on a small pilot section of track and am about to build a full 32 square foot layout on an eight by four foot chipboard base. I will keep you posted on the progress.
Feendish
UPDATE........Simpler method discovered and tested !!On each track section you will notice two small indentations in the centre of the track at each end.Drill a 1mm pilot hole as above, fit 10 or 12mm brads through the track and punch down into base board. You will find that the head finishes flush with the track surface due to the indentation and will not impede the cars in any way.SORTED!! 😉
