alan_chell
My layout is designed for 4 carriage trains so I would like to know if this product be available as a 4 car pack or train pack and seperate cars/coaches
NWR-Gordon-4
Hornby have announced the Hitachi Class 800 in GWR livery to be a 5 Car Train Pack. If Hornby were going to be release a 4 Car Train Pack and additional coaches sold seperately, I feel that they would have announced them back in January, if they are going to. JeremiahBunyan
Buy the GWR Class 800 5-car train pack and just keep one coach off...there's no rule that you have to run the whole 5-car set. Cheers. PS: I know you're still paying for the extra coach, but that's the only viable solution right now.

Nick_
The class 800 is a Diesel/Electric Multiple Unit. It exists as either a 5 car unit or 9 car unit. Hornby have decided to release a model of the 5 car unit. There is no reason why you shouldn't run it as a 4 car unit if you don't have room, but it's not prototypical. unlike a HST, which has a power car at the front and the back with coaches in the middle, The 800 has unpowered driving cars with the traction motors and Diesel engines in the 3 coaches. Thus without a coach connected the driving car can't move!Hornby's model won't be totally accurate in that respect because in the model, one of the driving cars will be powered, not the coaches
NWR-Gordon-4
There is no reason why it shouldn't run as a four car unit. How do know that a driving trailer will power the train and not a coach, Nick_?
Nick_
How do know that a driving trailer will power the train and not a coach, Nick_? Because In Hornby's description of the model it says: Driving Pantograph Trailer Standard car (DPTS) - poweredDriving Pantograph Trailer First car (DPTF)3 x Coaches
NWR-Gordon-4
Oh, right. I haven't read that. I must go and read it! 😆
Nick_
@Alan Chell Remember the 5 car class 800 is two driving cars and 3 coaches so if your layout is designed for four coaches and a loco, then as the 800 has no separate loco it's going to be about the same length. Clownfish01
As the class 800 only exists as 5 or 9 car emus, as previously stated, the only time hornby would release extra coaches would be for people to upgrade to 9 car.
