cooped
HiI'm trying a differenct decoder this week, the NCE D13SRP. Does anyone have experience of this in a Hornby loco? The deocder works well, but there is a very high pitch buzz coming from the decoder when power is applied (not the motor, the decoder itself). Previously I've used the hornby R8249 or one time a Loksound V4. I'm using a NCE powercab system.Does anyone know what is causing this or better still how to stop it?ThanksDan
poliss
Try setting CV9 to 0.
cooped
Thanks Poliss, but CV9 is not listed as being used on this decoder. I tried it anyway, but it didn't work. What function would CV9 have? Maybe it's under another CV number?ThanksDan
poliss
Think it might have been an older version of the decoder. Try asking on the NCE Yahoo group page. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nce-dcc/join
cooped
I've just noticed that I can hear the same, albeit quieter, hence I didn't notice it before, from the R8249 decoders.
cooped
I'm beginning to think the best solution to this one is to just forget about it!
poliss
See the Loy's Toys guide to CVs page. Particularly CVs 9 and 10. The section on CV9 mentions buzzing and ways to cure it.http://www.loystoys.com/info/configuration-variables.html
cooped
Thanks, that's a good site, but unless I missed something it talks about a buzzing sound coming from the motor. The sound I'm hearing is coming from the decoder. I found that in locos where the decoder is in the tender I can put just the tender on the track and still hear the sound (probably more of a high pitch whistle than a buzz really). I also found that the tender shell (and the insulating sleeve that comes with hornby locos) amplifies it as the website you mentioned describes the loco shell amplifying the motor buzz.Dan
