  1. Latest to the collection was the blue streamlined Coronation Queen Elizabeth and the B team's H1 La France. My Queen Liz was suffering the missing handrails saga, but easily got replacements from the store, other than that very happy with it. La France is a beauty, I'm very much enjoying the offerings that are coming out these days from pre-grouping. I'd be looking at Hornby's Stepney but the Dapol/RoS/NRM Terrier is looking mighty nice.
  2. LNER D16/3 and a Gresley LNER suburban brake arrived yesterday. First purchase in a long time. Both very nice.
  3. A Great Northern C1 Atlantic from the NRM at Shildon. Very nice!
  4. I could do with one of those, but what's it called and where can I get one?
  5. J15 arrived today! A beauty! From comments on this from others on other forums, and the K1 etc etc we should all be ridiculously happy! Welcome back Hornby! Can't wait for the D16 now.
  6. Placed an order for my next aquisition, Happy Christmas to me! Unfortunately not Hornby. A certain Atlantic in GNR livery from a certain extension of the NRM. Sorry Hornby, it's pricey but way beats IMO anything else available right now.
  7. Two bargains off the bay. Hornby LNER A1 'Great Northern' and B team D11/2 Hobbie Elliott. Very happy with both!
  8. Lol, you know what there was something in my head as I typed that making me doubt what I was saying! I couldn't for the life of me remember which side of the atlantic called it what! For some reason at the time funnel sounded best in my head! Smokey tube at the front. Yes, I think a sugar cube at the front would be fine Rob, but the larger high bass speakers would most likely need to go in the tender.
  9. Yes hornby use loksound. Their sound files are different to all you will be able to buy though. There should be enough room inside the loco body for the decoder (8 pin socket is at the front of the chassis, near the funnel), but there is very little room for a speaker in the loco too. There is, as said already, plenty of room in the tender, but that means running the speaker wires from the decoder to the tender. Not impossible, but would take a little skill and patience. There was an excellent article by Paul Chetter in Hornby magazine a couple of years ago doing just that (and some more). I can't remember which edition it was and my copy is packed away for a house move so I can't dig it out, but maybe someone else could help here. There is a range of 'sugar cube' speakers which are remarkably small with great sounds for the size which may be possible to squeeze into the loco body. Loksound decoders come with a speaker, but you may want to switch it for a better quality one, just make sure whatever you use has the right ohms rating for the decoder. Good luck.
  10. R2339 is as in 1930 something, the great gathering model is as preserved, I.e includes the speed record commemorative plaques.
  11. Perhaps it's time to shellve this madness and lay the egg thing to rest. Sorry that's all I've got. Anyhoo... back to latest acquisition, signed the contract on a new house yesterday. Seeing as we haven't sold the old one yet this may put a damper on the train stuff buying for a while, two mortgages and all that!
  12. Graskie said: Where did you poach that one from, cooped (not giving up). My momelette me use it. Sorry WTD!
  13. Perhaps it was being cooped up for too long that drove me to it? Uh oh, cue the chicken jokes, oh no that's on another thread right now!
  14. They usually go for small layouts as they love tail chasers. Of course the dogbone track plan is the favourite.
  15. Passengers struggle to get on and off the trains as they only paws at stations. Sorry
  16. They tend to model the Barking to Wolferhampton line. Perhaps I should leave now.
  17. Over 500 entries on a thread about what we just bought in a little over a year. We are just a tiny slice of the whole so the hobby can't be struggling that much!
  18. walkingthedog said: Had an email from a shop in Sheffield today with the set available. For £1399!! According to their website Model Railways Direct have 4 available for £1049.
  19. My next addition to this thread was going to be a Great Goodbye Sir Nigel Gresley, but from the email I just got from Hattons that won't be happening as Hornby are short changing them on their order so my pre-order is cancelled. Thanks Hornby!
  20. I got a micro sound chip for my blue box L&YR 2-4-2 tank and one of those sugar cube speakers. Fitted it this afternoon. Very impressed by the sound from this tiny little speaker and the fact that you can fit it and the decoder in that ridiculously small space (after spending quite some time with different ways of arranging them!).
  21. A rolling road, plus a midland compound in LMS black and L & YR 2-4-2 in LMS black. Exquisite!
  22. Tovidious said: At the show in Valley Forge? I was there and picked up a few things as well. Some great layouts there, too. World's greatest hobby on tour, I assume that's the one you're thinking of. Last time it was in Philly it was the show that got me back into model trains.
