  1. Paul, hi, Still running Dutchess of Atholl, today, along with 20 odd other, 3 rail locos. You get addicted to sound of tin track. Am able, due to space, to also run , DC, and DCC, so, somewhat spoilt for choice. Have the Blink Bonny set, in TT. Along with 5 other TTTriang locos, and load of rolling stock, trucks. Be a sad day, when I have to downsize.
  2. It’s going to need a hell of a review, to be much use to me, and judging by those who have already voted with their feet, others feel the same. I wonder what Chris, would have made of it.
  3. Don’t say it’s been Allowed to go off piste. I never am.
  4. BM, a lot of good people have disappeared since the new forum, which has become mainly TT, has emerged. Twas the same, when it changed from the Happy friendly forum, previously. T here were some awfully knowledgeable 00, and 3 rail guys on here, before. For what its worth, i think the new forum, is a mistake, and have taken a step back, myself. The last thing i want to read about is what is happening in the TT world. Sorry Guys, but it was better controlled in old forum.
  5. I have 2 Orient Express sets, that I bought for my children.
  6. Landyman 130, Hi, you are not alone in your views. Hornby in their wisdom, have gone down the RM Web, forum route, and it is hoped things will improve. You will see by the absence of many previous regulars, that it is at present, not a success, in the view of the older members. We do have some able Mods, whose imput, hopefully, will bring about some changes. In the meantime, some of us, have refrained from posting, very much.
  7. i built all mine. used threaded rod, and nuts.
  8. They won’t. Modern locos have insufficient grunt to pull loads up a helix. I have sufficient space to give my trains a 4 foot run to start of helix, meaning they hit it on the run. All my locos are DC, on helix, so at least 25 years old. There is a lot of nonsense and claims of locos running on a helix. I doubt one would be totally successful in TT. I run Triang ,TT, and built a raised track 2 years ago. It took a 12 foot run , before loco would manage the height.
  9. TT, hi, i have 2 helix, albeit, 00, but both made with flexi track. You need as few joins as possible given each one a derailing hazard, usually in a hard to reach place. mine are both double track. My gradient is 2.5. Originally it was one 7 tier rising 29 inches. now have them linked by a bridge in continuous loop.
  10. Gizzy, hi. You do not. mention your budget. Are you going to buy everything new. TT 20, will fit your table, but it is not cheap, and little secondhand around. 00, starter set, cheaper, masses of secondhand, available. N gauge, Hornby, make Arnold, but not cheap. As to track. peco , flexi, regardless of gauge. Then you need to decide, DC, Or DCC. Need to read up a bit.
  11. Go to Lu LU JO post Problem With Elite Dongle. At bottom of postings, RAF, has fully documented how to update Elite. Its a bullet proof method, which we all use. Follow it carefully. It involves a tad of patience, but it works.
  12. Sir John, Thanks Hornby sound bears no resemblance to MTH. Here you get Cab Chatter, driver talks to yard checker. Super quality, but again, at a price. I have bought nothing new for last few years.
