Why do you need 2 CDUs? Usually one is sufficient for any layout. One CDU should fire two, three or even more point motors simultaneously. But in answer to your question, using the 15V Aux output would be ill-advised anyway. Most CDUs require 19-24V for reliable operation.

Dapol also do compatible one quite a bit cheaper. Your measurements puzzle me though. 'Standard' diameters are 12.6mm or 14.1mm. Yours are somewhere in between, so maybe you should measure them again. Remember that it's the tread diameters you are measuring, not the flanges. Those 'bad' wheels as you call them definitely look like very old style width patterns so it doesn't surprise me that you are getting problems on points with those.

Other things being equal, IMO it is always better to use de-ionised or distilled water in applications where there is a possibility of parts or areas silting up with lime scale.

They should be connected to copper finger like pickups which are positioned against the backs of the wheels. You must be able to sees them if you have the body removed from the loco.

Not if you don't have a DCC controller and want to control everything via the App.

Decoders are sometimes fitted to non-powered cars for operating lights, brake squeal etc.

@Alanburford9101 If you do need to test the decoder you can buy decoder testers for around £40 or so from ESU. They are a very useful bit of kit IMO. LaisDCC also make one slightly cheaper but it is a clone of the ESU one, so for the small difference in price you may as well go for the genuine article.

So what you're saying is you want to control HM7k decoders from your DCC controller rather than from the App. Not sure if that would gain much interest, but maybe, who knows. -
Yeah, I've got a loco or two like that. One is an R1 (3D printed) that I got recently, it was hard enough getting a micro 6 pin decoder in.

@96RAF But you don't expect those problems with a brand new device. Everything should just work. The issue with the encoder turning while pressing is something else. that is possibly a design problem.

Given the intermittent response of one of the buttons I would contact Hornby for a replacement. That is assuming you bought it direct from them. If you bought it from another retailer then return it to them. Not sure sure there is anything to be done about the knob turning when you press to select. I think they all suffer from that to a degree.
