  1. I've had one of those sockets fail on a Prairie I have. An annoying fault to be sure.
  2. Apart from it working fine under DC control, it sounds very much like the gears aren't meshing properly. Have you checked that just to be sure?
  3. If they are NEM then they they should fit any rolling stock that has NEM fittings. NEM is a standard.
  4. Train-O-Matic also do a 6 pin with harness. I think they are cheaper but I can't remember by how much.
  5. If it is brand new, Hornby brand and DCC fitted then it will most likely be fitted with an HM7000 decoder. They are configured for normal DCC operation out of the box. So yes, you should be able to use it with your existing DCC controller, but sound files can only be installed via the App, though it does come with a default steam sound, (which may well be out of date). In a nut shell, if you need to change the sound file you will have to do it via the App then switch back to DCC operation.
  6. Why do you need 2 CDUs? Usually one is sufficient for any layout. One CDU should fire two, three or even more point motors simultaneously. But in answer to your question, using the 15V Aux output would be ill-advised anyway. Most CDUs require 19-24V for reliable operation.
  7. That reminds me of the joke where someone said, 'I've had this brush for 25 years and all it's needed were two replacement heads and one handle'.
  8. Colin, you've posted the same answer four times. 🤔
  9. Dapol also do compatible one quite a bit cheaper. Your measurements puzzle me though. 'Standard' diameters are 12.6mm or 14.1mm. Yours are somewhere in between, so maybe you should measure them again. Remember that it's the tread diameters you are measuring, not the flanges. Those 'bad' wheels as you call them definitely look like very old style width patterns so it doesn't surprise me that you are getting problems on points with those.
  10. Other things being equal, IMO it is always better to use de-ionised or distilled water in applications where there is a possibility of parts or areas silting up with lime scale.
  11. Is what what? There is no picture in that link, just a place holder.
  12. They should be connected to copper finger like pickups which are positioned against the backs of the wheels. You must be able to sees them if you have the body removed from the loco.
  13. Not if you don't have a DCC controller and want to control everything via the App.
  14. Decoders are sometimes fitted to non-powered cars for operating lights, brake squeal etc.
  15. @Alanburford9101 If you do need to test the decoder you can buy decoder testers for around £40 or so from ESU. They are a very useful bit of kit IMO. LaisDCC also make one slightly cheaper but it is a clone of the ESU one, so for the small difference in price you may as well go for the genuine article.
  16. Just sounds like he got half way through the video, will view the rest later.
  17. So what you're saying is you want to control HM7k decoders from your DCC controller rather than from the App. Not sure if that would gain much interest, but maybe, who knows.
  18. Yeah, I've got a loco or two like that. One is an R1 (3D printed) that I got recently, it was hard enough getting a micro 6 pin decoder in.
  19. @96RAF But you don't expect those problems with a brand new device. Everything should just work. The issue with the encoder turning while pressing is something else. that is possibly a design problem.
  20. Given the intermittent response of one of the buttons I would contact Hornby for a replacement. That is assuming you bought it direct from them. If you bought it from another retailer then return it to them. Not sure sure there is anything to be done about the knob turning when you press to select. I think they all suffer from that to a degree.
  21. Well that is an option, especially as you only have the two locos configured. As Fishy says though, it's unusual for unlink/remove and re-link not to work.
  22. Is this a brand new Elite? If so the buttons should certainly register clearly when pressed. the issue the the knob turning a little when being pressed is something a few people find annoying. It just requires to be done very carefully. Try doing a self-test by holding down the 'Loco' button when powering up, then release when you see 'Hornby' appear on the screen.
  23. @KennyP The picture was definitely taken in Liverpool as Bee suggests. Threlfall's Ales was a Liverpool brewery until Whitbread bought them out in the 1970s
  24. As mentioned above, for anything HM7000-related it is best to go directly to hm.customercare@hornby.com. George who heads the development team is very responsive.
  25. I never have a problem with navigation. I always have the forum view in front of me with the forum check list to the right. These are always unchecked except for the one I am viewing. I am always in the brand forum because it keeps me logged in. Works fine for me and I am not interested in any of the rest of the view search options.
