  1. Thanks for this link. I would have only quoted the line of text, but have not found a way of deleting part of a quote.
  2. I've not been on the forum for a little while, until today. My password was not displayed automitically, so I had to type it in manually. I use Chrome that does this automatically. So I had to re-set my password. I have not been able to find the sub-grouping display to select, such as TT:120 postings but find all postings jumbled up. The forum is now a mess. What's happening? I've no idea where this will appear!
  3. "Rails is probably not going to be my first choice of stockist" Why is this?
  4. I previously wrote;- "Somewhere I saw a video, where they were soldering the metal fishplate joiners to reduce the track resistance. Has anyone done this in TT:120? Sounds like a good idea on a permanant layout, but I'm a bit concerned about expansion in a hot summer causing the track to buckle." It appears that the following postings have only taken in my first paragraph. The second should have made clear what I was suggesting, so I’ll expand what I wrote. When I wrote, “soldering the metal fishplate joiners to reduce the track resistance”, I should have said – soldering the metal fishplate joiners to the track rails. Thus, no resistance at joints in the track to cause overheating. The two sections of rail are soldered to each other and the fishplates. Not soldering a PSU feed to the fishplates. However, that could be a good place to power the track. I am expecting tomorrow the arrival of my first Peco flexi track, so I will measure the resistance of a yard (36 inches) of track. I would expect the resistance of the joint to be almost zero. However, I will be building my layout in a loft and could expect the room it to get very hot in summer. So would continuous model track, a closer representation of modern day main-line track, buckle? I am using the HM 7000 with BT, so no need for isolation at points.
  5. Rallymatt wrote - I would ignore point clips and solder in wire droppers. It is a more robust long term proposition. Somewhere I saw a video, where they were soldering the metal fishplate joiners to reduce the track resistance. Has anyone done this in TT:120? Sounds like a good idea on a permanant layout, but I'm a bit concerned about expansion in a hot summer causing the track to buckle. (I'm in the design stage of a new layout.)
  6. Well both locos arrived back from Hornby yesterday. With a new installation of the app, I was able to get The Scotsman loco running. First forwards a few inches and then backwards a few inches - as when done originally when new. Then a slow run round the oval, watching carefully as it passed the track power conection, where it had wobbled and then failed. This time all OK. I ran the loco for about half an hour. Today, I got Falcon running using the same procedure as the first loco. Also OK for about half an hour. I had them about 180 deg. appart, following each other round the oval in both directions and sound OK. Hornby fitted a new motor to The Scotsman and a new decoder to Falcon, but gave no indication of the causes for failure. Tomorrow, I'll get he coaches behind both locos - I've bought 4 BR coaches for the second loco. A frustrating start to TT:120, but very impressive. What a difference 40 years from when I last used OO.
  7. As a retired electronics engineer with many years’ experience of fault finding, when circuit diagrams and oscilloscopes were used to follow logic levels; I also would look elsewhere. But Hornby want both locos back – so I can’t argue with their better knowledge of their own products. I uninstalled the MH7000 app, followed by a reboot and new installation. Then on the phone, I followed the instructions one by one as given on the phone. I bought a Lenovo Tab M10 specially for this task and it’s the first device used to install a loco. It has all the updates from Lenovo, with no apps added by me. The Scotsman train set oval is powered by the supplied plug top PSU. Both locos were delivered from Hornby with the decoders fitted. As both are under warrant, I’ve not opened them up to check that the chips are in their sockets. I’ve found many faults due to chips working their way out of a socket overtime. Thanks for your suggestions.
  8. I sent an e-mail to Hornby and followed this the next day with a phone call. I received much friendly assistance on the phone. Unfortunatly the Scotsman train set loco with sound, is being sent to Hornby. My second loco (only) a Blue Falcon with sound. Same problem, so they also want it back. So guess my work! Why the same problem with two locos. The app has been uninstalled and reinstalled many times and the reset code has been used, but still faulty. Suggests to me that there is a fault condition that renders the decoder unresponsive, requiring a factory jig/tool to reset.
  9. Firstly, I would like to thank all who have posted suggestions. @P-Henny As the BT app does not use DCC Addresses, why is it available to change? I’m aware of MAC addresses being fixed. @Steve I did a power cycle of both tablet ad locos many times but this did not resolve the problem @Rallymatt I took half an hour to lay the track, ensuring that all joints were smooth and then pushed my three light installed coaches manually round the oval to ensure that the lights did not flicker. @ 96RAF Precisely any profile! When installing most apps, one has to install/load many extra ‘bits’ that are virtually impossible to remember !!! ______ Since my last posting I have uninstalled the MH7000 app and started again. But I keep getting requests to reset devices and restart scans, but this achieves nothing apart from another request. I can’t link devices (locos), nor unlink them. I entered a “unique reset code”, found on a screen dump previously taken, but that did not work. Finally, on the settings screen where it displays Connecting Network, what is the network as all I now see is “finding Host Device”.
  10. I am also experiencing problems with my Scotsman sound fitted set. When it arrived, I did not have a suitable table for the full oval, so tested the loco only on the straight sections of the track. It was easy to set-up on a Lenovo Tab M10 and I was able to move forwards and backwards with the sound effects. The day before yesterday, after much home decorating, I was able to layout the full track oval. I had to do an app update, then I started to move back and forth OK. I then started to run round the oval. As it passed the power feed hump it wobbled and stopped. In ‘Manage Device’, ‘Motor Overcurrent’ is yellow with ‘!’. Reinstalling a profile is requested. But rather vague as what profile! It had de-railed so I guess caused a short circuit. I am unable clear the fault. The same day my second loco (only) arrived the Blue Falcon. I can’t get it to work - no sound and no movement. I chose ‘4’ as the Loco Address. Why does it not default to a different number – that’s common sense. I’ve spent some time reading the guide PDFs and think I’ve found some details that I will check out. But why no short simple instructions? Next job is to reset the app and start from new.
  11. Thanks LT&SR_NSE. Perhaps this and other forum “quirks” could be listed in a fixed at the top posting. I was aware of your first built point, but not the second. This would explain replies to posts that don’t appear above. You then posted:- “Finally Landyman commented on his own post appearing & then disappearing - I have observed this occurring when a post causes a new page to start.” This is quite possible. This (a second posting) also raises the problem in this forum of not being able to multiple quote. Thanks again. EDIT: Immediately viewing my posting shows another problem. Single blank lines between paragraphs when typing become double after posting.
  12. I recently posted on an existing thread by "quoting" part of an earlier posting. But today returning to that thread, my posting is now not there. It was just after I posted it and remained there until I closed the session on my PC. Refreshing the screen to see any possible reply. I used the Google advanced search as recommended on a posting here. But was unable to find my last posting. I also searched for another word (which was included in my “quote”) and the word was not found. The word: Lenovo appears in a number of topics. Why are postings missing from certain topics? I’ve also noticed that folk are answering questions that don’t appear earlier in the topic. This is quite widespread. Any suggestions, please?
  13. I bought one of the first personal computers, a Commodore Pet with 8K of memory. I soon started to write software using Hex coding, progressing to Assembly language, as well as BASIC. Programmers ensured for the next 20 years, that their programs ran on all versions of OS updating. I still use a Psion computer that is about 24 years old and still on the original OS supplied. But times have changed! I’ve ordered a Lenovo Tab 9 (4GB 64GB) (Wifi) and hope that the Hornby app will work on it. Bought with no other use in mind. Processor: MediaTek Helio G80 Processor (2.00 GHz ) Display: 9" HD (1340 x 800), IPS, touchscreen, 400 nits Lenovo’s website still indicates that it’s ex-stock, but I received an e-mail on 3rd October, and it’s now on backorder. That sounds familiar!
  14. Thanks Steve. I've spent some time wading through various postings and they suggest that it's risky buying any old iPad specifically for use with Hornby apps. Only a recent iPad with the latest OS is guaranteed - or maybe not? Alan
