Old Bob
How can I tell if the steam locomotive is tender driven ?I have several TTS and want to use my new road roller !
Chrissaf
If the steam loco is factory installed TTS, then they will all be loco driven with the decoder and speaker in the tender. Usually with pickups distributed across both the loco and tender. AFAIK Hornby do not make any tender driven locos any-more, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong..Another indicator that the steam loco is loco driven with a tender decoder is that there will be a four wire 'wiring harness' terminated on a plug emanating from the loco, to plug into a tender socket. Hornby produce a special plug extraction tool for this plug and socket arrangement [ X6468 ]..Another sure fire indicator will be weight. Whichever is the heaviest, loco or tender, will contain the motor.
2e0dtoeric
or - if the loco wheels turn freely when you roll it along the track, and the tender wheels drag, it's a tender drive - and of course v/v! (the low-tech approch!)
walkingthedog
Quite simple really. If they are tender drive the loco wheels turn freely.
Rog RJ
It's not a road roller, it's a rolling road.
