Accessory Decoder Continuous Output.

Most likely there are alternatives with continuous output capabilities.

.

It would be helpful if you were to provide a bit more detail on what you want to control with a continuous output. The most logical answer is light based signals, but the Hornby type of continuous output can only operate 2 Aspect Signals. There are other decoders available that will support 2, 3 & 4 Aspect Signals if that is what you are interested in. If you want to operate 'stall' point motors, then bear in mind that these usually need an output that reverses polarity, there are hardly any decoders that natively support that feature. Most 'stall' motors need a change over relay connected to the output of the decoder to effect the polarity reversal.

.

Granted, there may be others on here using different brands / models that can give an easy 'off the top of their head' answer for the products they are using, but that does not necessarily mean that you will get comprehensive coverage of what is available out there outside of the Hornby product stable. Thus you might miss out on a product that fits your requirements 100% at a price that you are happy with.

.

All the brands that produce Accessory Decoders will almost certainly have online manuals for them, that can be viewed online or downloaded. It is an easy task to search them out and read them your your answer.

.

Apart from which, members are not supposed to aggressively recommend non Hornby products where there is a competing Hornby product in the Hornby portfolio. Remember this is a Hornby forum.

Other application for continuous - non-solenoid point motors.  Some decoders other than the 8247 allow for pulsed, variable length, and continuous, some are just for light signals and some are just for non-solenoid point motors.  There is a great variety out there if you go looking.

Looking at Page 27 of the v1.5 manual it seems as if all you can do is allocate an address, just like a loco. The manual talks only to solenoid motors, but I wonder if you could set the R8247 port(s) for continuous output using an Elite or eLink/RM and the Select would/should/could be able to operate lamps.

Since rpjallan hasn't come back to query the previous Select posts. Looking at his posting history, he seems to have an Elite with RailMaster as his controller set-up. Therefore the R8247 configuration limitations of the Select are probably not relevant on this occasion.

That's correct. What I was really interested in is the fact that, in the thread you moved my post from, some were saying the R8247 is old & unreliable & to look for other options. So, what are the other options if you want continuous output to run a simple two aspect light signal?

Look at other branded products as I suggested in my reply at 15:10 2nd Jan above.

Alternatively,

.

Although more costly as more kit is required, any solenoid pulse only output Accessory Decoder can be converted to continuous output by the addition of a latching relay board and external 12 volt DC power supply. Gaugemaster sell ready made DCC friendly latching relay boards [ GM500D ]. Costs can be reduced if the option below is adopted as additional or new Accessory Decoder purchases are not required.

.

The latching relay board can optionally be wired to an existing point motor so that the switching of the point automatically changes the 2 aspect signal.
