NervousEnergy
Hello! I have been cleaning and servicing some older trains from my childhood, and have recently dug out the old triang Jinty 0-6-0 and the 2-6-2 R59 Tank engine. I've cleaned and lubricated them both, replaced magnets and brushes and they are now both working. However, the bodyshells are utterly ruined. The were loved hard, and were knocking on 20 years old (I think) when the 6 year old me first got hold of them. Almost 30 years further on and they are hideous, chipped and bashed amid the shiny pristine modern models. But, they have enormous sentimental value, and I love the durable and irascible personalities of them. . i can't really bear making them into 'scrap siding' trains, and seeing as they both work I would like to use them. I was wondering if anyone knows of body kit, or shell, or anything really that would replace the originals? Ebay has a lot of old triang shells from the same train in various levels of disrepair, but I would rather a new one altogether... I have done a lot of looking online and not found what I'm looking for, so I thought I would ask the experts! :) Thanks a million for any advice you can offer! NFSCARBON
Replacement Triang bodies would be the best bet. Nothing else will fit without serious modifications (unless you find an old Kit designed to fit the Triang chassis). If your handy with tools, the Jinty from the Great British Locomotive magazine has a copy of the Bachmann Jinty's bodyshell. I've got mine to fit a Hornby 0-6-0 chassis with a little work, the Triang one could be possible too.
Forum-1211528
The R52 jinty and the R59 3mt you can easily get a replacement loco body from Peters Spares or off ebay then fit it to the existing XO4 motor bogies and do these locos have a SYNKROSMOKE unit on board if they do contact Dapol and order some of their smoke oil this can be used with TRI-ANG smoke units and work well so do that ok my friend!! 😎 You can order at www.dapol.co.uk. 2e0dtoeric
There is also a small firm starting up, in Norfolk, specialising in triang spares. :-)If you look, you will find him mentioned on here in several places. :-) :-)
Rana Temporia
You can get lazer printed refurb kits off a well known auction site for both these locos. i have used them and although they are not perfect, for just over a fiver they make a huge difference and are simpler than using water slide decals. Basically you cut them out and stick them on, then paint the edges of the paper to match the loco and varnish. I have covered some very poor examples of the R59 and triang princesses with these and they are good enough for me. I’d be tempted to spray the loco bodies black (or green? For the R59) so you get an even finish.
The son of Triangman
You can also get original transfers for BR totems and early BR lion riding wheel. The norfolk place I know doesn't sell spare parts on their own, they only sell parts as part of a service or restoration. They have the parts needed,

NervousEnergy
Thanks to everyone for the assistance! I am very grateful! Plan so far for the R59 is see if I can find a plastic kit and adapt it ..I'm alright with a craft knife, and have lots of miniature wargaming supplies and experience that may come in handy. If that goes badly I'll be looking for an old bodyshell to fit on, and going from there. Either way I'd like to get some of these transfers, so I'll look for this nofolk place! The Jinty I've got running already (new brushes and magnet), and managed to find an old BEC kit, for a white metal body. This weighs a tonne, and the jinty seems to run a bit jerky so might need a full rebuild, which I'm nervous about doing as the wheels will need to come off.... Guess while they're off I'll file down that MAHOOSIVE flange on the wheels, to stop it rattling across the chairs. :/ Hope everyones good and more advice etc would be greatly received! If not, I have a body shell in good condition, the mechanics are shot, so would be happy to see the body go to a good home
walkingthedog
NervousEnergy's post was a year and a half ago and he hasn't posted anything since so I reckon you are too late with your kind offer.
