Slumdog
Following on from my post regarding the new Ford GTE v Aston Martin Vantage GT3, after truing up the tyres on the Ford I decided to sort out the Aston. Now it could be the fact that I have a twisty track with no straights being longer than 5 standard straights long or just the configuration of the Aston ie Sidewinder motor but after doing the tyres it is once again so much consistently faster than the Ford. Are there any other cars that measure up to the Aston in terms of handling out of the box with only truing the tyres and no other mods. I see both the Audi GT3 and the Mclaren GT3 have sidewinder motors, looks like the other GT cars like the Mercedes GT3, Porsche 911 RSR and BMW GT3 are inline models, do these handle as well? woodcote
Glad you’re having fun tuning your cars! You’re right that your layout characteristics will have an impact on which cars are the best handling. Twisty is going to make that FF motor in the Ford GTE hard to handle... The Aston Martin Vantage is a good all-round car and I reckon it’s one of the best of the sidewinder GTs, if not the best. The Audi R8 LMS is pretty good too. The McLaren is nice and low, but can be a bit light at the front. The other inline GT cars should all go well on your layout. They have the standard ‘short can’ Mabuchi motor, so will be more manageable that the Ford on a twisty track. The BMW Z4 is short and light, so - in theory - should handle the twisty stuff superbly. The Porsche RSR and AMG Mercedes go very well on our big digital tracks and are likely to be a match for the Aston on yours. There are some superb liveries available, so take your pick! Andy P.
Performance parity is always a labor of trial and error. Luckily Woodcote has highlighted some good places to start.
Slumdog
Interestingly I changed my track layout last night. I did have a few radius 1 curves in there but have taken those out and now have nothing sharper than the standard radius 2 curves and this has evened up the lap times a little between the Aston and the Ford. In fact the quickest lap I did last night was with the Ford although I would say I can lap consistently more quickly with the Aston.Just goes to show that the layout can make some difference for a car like the Ford. I do like the Ford and will keep it, its a little more challenging to drive but I do need a couple more forgiving cars for when mates come over.I have the Porsche 911 RSR on my Christmas list, so hopefully santa will be kind enough to bring me one of those. I think I will also get either the Mercedes or the BMW, maybe both.
john205480
I have a Mercedes AMG GT3 and it sticks well to the track like the Aston does .I don't push my best cars too hard but going quick without coming off is the name of the game . chris-1211284
I have found the gulf addition lotus evora almost impossible to beat on a fairly twisty track with some radius 1, mainly radius 2 corners. I have the Aston, which just can’t get close. It’s actually creating problems, as it is my wife’s car, and she is thrashing me every race!!
