Chrissaf
....anyone any advice...Yes....don't use them.....keep with using soldered wires (but preferably direct to rail, not the joiners)..Are you using the official Hornby X8011 terminal pins (crimp and/or soldered) on the end of the wires that are pushed into the power tracks, or just bared wires. Bared wires are probably not rigid enough, and give way under the internal spring terminal which is designed to work with the X8011 pins../media/tinymce_upload/2fbc06ce24106992e6db626604612cd9.jpg. Coreservers
i wasnt using the terminal pins. i use the fishplate solders but once attached i solder the joiner to therrtack to ensure a complete connection. Thanks very much.. great advice
Chrissaf
Good god no.....never ever solder the track joiner to the rail..The joiners (unsoldered) allow the track to expand and contract preventing buckling. You can probably get away with just the odd joiner here and there soldered, but never solder them all on the whole layout.
walkingthedog
If you are going to solder the rail joiner, as stated big mistake, you might just as well solder the wires to the rails.
Coreservers
Ill try that... tho definitely dont solder every joiner and only 1 side. was advice given.. but makes sense.
walkingthedog
If you can use a soldering iron then do a proper job. 😆 Rail joiners are just that, if you solder them they are very difficult to unsolder if you need to move the track, and you most certainly will need to do that.
