2e0dtoeric
Here's a little device that may be better than the glassfibre 'pens' for removing stubborn muck from wheels, etc -https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Metal-Detector-Metal-Detecting-Composite-Cleaning-Pencil/202795147660?hash=item2f3788618c%3Ag%3Anj0AAOSwuJVddsKO&fbclid=IwAR3ruDJFgbQeKvc4eGxEH0DvGwzYjKaTfiZAdI10GKecvfV3WQlLCMfVHnM

Jimbo1707820979
@WTD Please let us know how you get on with it. From the write-up it sounds interesting compared with a fibre pen.

Lyd 85B
I will Jimbo. Just ordered it. Anything to report yet, WTD? I see they're still selling the item and just wonder what you thought to it.
walkingthedog
I forgot about it. It is a good quality product. I've only done a little test clean and it works well. I don't clean my loco wheels very often.
atom3624
WtD I couldn't get a clear image of your new Avatar. What is it? It almost looks like a twin engined high-tailed jet aka Javelin, but if it's just a poor quality image, and no high tail, the King of low level flying had to be the Buccaneer, one of my favourites of the 70's !! morairamike
Thanks for the link, have just bought one. I have a fibreglass pen and a brass one but find that often the fibreglass one sheds small pieces of the strands, these get in your fingers and are very painful and difficult to see and remove. Puffed Out
Thorns are much cheaper, as they are essentially free.If they're good enough for the Staffordshire Hoard, they're good enough for anyone.
walkingthedog
Staffordshire, thorns? Too much medication I reckon . 😉

morairamike
So how do you change your avatar.
Puffed Out
@Jimyjames & @WTD. Pointed remarks are unnecessary as is high on medication. 😆 😆 (Groans). The Blackthorns here where I live are life threatening. 4 years ago the farmer cut the hedges with a flail cutter.Unkown to me as I drove over the mess he left, I got 5 thorns in 3 tyres.....which resulted in slow punctures. As my tyres were near end of life, I just topped up the air until replacement. Tough blighters, those thorns. These thorns were in the realms of 45-50mm long. 😮
walkingthedog
We cut back blackthorn around the fields we look after. Got stabbed in the leg last year about 3/4 inch in and 1/4 inch sticking out.
Ruffnut Thorston
It seems that some blackthorn, or hawthorn, thorns always cause a wound that goes septic...poisonous! 😮 Nature's barbed wire! 😉

Jimbo1707820979
All very fascinating...... but we still don't know how good this new cleaning pen is. 😛 BTW what is the best method of removing the dirty end of a fibre pen ? I don't much fancy cutting the end off in view of the nasty micro -bits flying around.

I stand corrected -- or in my case sit. 😀 But how to clean the dirty fibre pen ?
walkingthedog
I clean a fibre pen by trimming it with scissors outside.
