"Works Grey" A1's/A3's

I have only been able to find one, which is of 1470 Great Northern in works grey in one of my books, in an NRM publication from 1976, "Gresley and Stanier A Centenary Tribute", by John Bellwood and David Jenkinson, on page 16 (picture size 3 inches by 7.5 inches) which I could scan for you if you want.

 

There are a number of places I might suggest you could investigate -

 

The National Railway Museum 

their photographic catalogue has potential sources -

which may include the one mentioned above.

 

There may be something in the Stephenson Locomotive Society or Railway Correspondence and Travel Society photographic libraries. The RCTS Locomotives of the LNER Part 2A doesn't have a works grey photograph, all the 'works pictures' are of locomotives in green livery.

 

The chap who runs this website may have some information although there is nothing suitable instantly available on the website
