Nem couplings

The problem you have is not just the lack of NEM pockets, its the lack of close coupling mechanisms on the coaches you mention above. Hunt couplings are a 'solid' coupling unlike tension lock types and require suitable movement in the NEM pocket to negotiate curves and an extending bar to utilise the advantages of the Hunt system. As such the NEM options suggested by WTD and Sarah above are not really suitable.

You could try Roco 40343 or Roco 40344 which are designed for slightly shorter coaches than you have, but as WTD says 'Will need a bit of mini engineering but that is what railway modelling is all about.' These may seem expensive but each pack contains enough for six coaches. Correct height is important and as these are designed for HO they will need 'packed' under higher OO models.

In a recent similar themed post, Chrissaf provided a fascinating link to a site all about couplings and Keen systems  also offer a close coupling retrofit option though this doesn't include NEM pockets.

Best of luck and let us know how you get on...............

@WTD.

Yes, but my link below was to a different part of the DCC supplies site...Symoba system...

😉

The Keen System parts I have seen do have an open bottom mount, very close to the NEM pocket size...they do a dummy buckeye coupling to fit. The coupling mating with another by being attached vertically...

NEM couplings do fit, but can drop out.

Either a base could be glued on, or the coupling glued in place, though that negates one reason for havin NEM pockets.

I think that the Symoba system does include some close coupling sliding mountings as well...

  • 103642 DCC Supplies Symoba 111 NEM Conversion Sliders (kinematic coupling)

    The 'slider' (A.K.A. short coupling mechanism) is used to replace the existing coupling mount (it can also be chassis mounted).

    This then acts as a spring loaded centring mechanism for your coupler, ensuring that it is always central.

    An appropriate NEM pocket is chosen suitable for the model and is fitted onto the square pin.

    Once the correct height is set (using a height gauge/rule), the pin is cut to length.

    Packaging: 1 pair (2 pieces).

    Base Dimensions: 12mm x 11mm x 2mm
