ihave been offered some Carrera Evolution cars very cheap but will they work on my scalextric  sports track

yes

BUT you will need to change the guide to a thinner one that works with scaly track , sport or classic, and has usually been provided by carrera with new car.

If you get these without that replacement guide when you buy them, plan to buy some. to use it on your track.

 

Now if they are digital, carrera eventually changed their chip design to allow them to operate on analog.

Check net then for steps to switch over to analog.

If toy will not change over, you will need to rewire lead wires from motor to guide.

 

Personally do not like carrera cars but to each their own.
