Hi does it matter if you fit decoder the wrong way around on Steam loco. I know it will run backwards but does it matter. The 1 hole is not clearly marked on the 61xx and don't really want to take body off again to change.

It is easily resolved by changing CV29 basically by adding 1 to the existing value..........that is of course if your controller is capable of reading/writing CVs........CV29 calculator here ............HB

The correct alignment is only important if you have lighting which most steamers do not. If lighting is fitted and the plug is reversed the lights simply do not work, a definite clue that the plug is in the wrong way round.

 

If you look at the inner four connections on a NEM652 socket you will see why this is and if you look at the outer four connections you will understand why the loco runs backwards to normal.
