Kevin Hodges
Hi all, Is the Hornby DCC power track distinguishable from the DC version ? I have 2 of them. One has Green connector buttons, the other like a Salmon Pink. Which is which please ? Kev.
Chrissaf
The DCC version typically has a label on the underside saying DCC. However the label may fall off..I would potentially refer to the Salmon Pink as being Buff. The Buff ones are DC Analogue R8206 power tracks. The DCC version may be Green, but also sometimes Dark Grey (Borderline Black)..The guaranteed easy way to tell which are DC and which are DCC, is to prise open the 'clip on' cover between the rails of the track and look under the cover. If there is a capacitor soldered across the rails, then the connector is Analogue DC. If there is no capacitor across the rails, then the power connector is either DCC Digital or an Analogue R8206 that has been modified for DCC by removing the capacitor. Hence why opening the cover and looking is the only sure fire way to tell. R8206 shown below...../media/tinymce_upload/47f49bfc24962e5dd2c638b3c9375dfd.jpg. 96RAF
The DC one which has additional components is cheaper than the DCC one which has those compnents removed - work the logic of that one out.
Fishmanoz
The marketing people think the DCCers have more money to spend so will pay more for the track. And anyway, if it's a DCC power track, it must be more special than DC.
Kevin Hodges
Thanks all, I knew about the capacitor. I was too lazy to prise the cover off to check 😳 Kev.
