HST43
Hi there.I'm looking to upgrade the PSU to the 4amp, but I have a spare switchmode 15V 5amp PSU from an old laptop would this be suitable to use for the elink ?thanks
Chrissaf
Some, nay many, on here will say yes. But there is at least one thread on here where a member's eLink was damaged and needed repair after using a non Hornby ex Laptop 5 Amp supply. Now it may be that, that user was unlucky and had an eLink with an underlying fault. But do you really want to take the risk.
Fishmanoz
If you do want to take the risk, you need to make sure the plug is compatible for a start, Chris can advise the spec for that I'm sure.
Chrissaf
6.3mm outer diameter 3.0mm diameter inner [positive] pin. However 6.3mm with 3.0mm inner pins are more difficult to source. The 6.3mm / 3.1mm plug is more common and totally compatible with the Hornby power socket.

Chrissaf
Its totally up to you. I am not prepared to make a recommendation about a non Hornby power supply.
Rog RJ
Make sure the plug polarity is the same as the Hornby one.
96RAF
Various online blurbs about the Hornby power supply describe it as swtiched mode.It is also identical to the Scalextric C7024 unit.
