cedric_fairweather
I have just bought the DCC ready Diesel Electric rail car and wonder if any of the current Hornby TTS decoders would work with it. I don`t really fancy going down the much more expensive Loksound route. Thanks
Chrissaf
As far as motor control is concerned. Any of the TTS decoders would work. The question should really be. Which TTS decoder [if any] would provide suitable sounds for a Diesel Electric loco?
96RAF
You don't mention which make and model the railcar is so it would be wise to do a DC rigged motor stall current check to ensure it is within TTS capability limits.
cedric_fairweather
There was me hoping for a simple answer! It`s a Hornby R2768 GWR Diesel Electric Parcels RAILCAR `34`Thought it might be a good one for sound just by way of a nice empty space. Chrissaf
The simple answer.Currently in the Hornby Shop only six TTS decoders are shown as available in stock to order. Five of those six are 'steam' locos and the sixth is a Class 47 Diesel. Even if you look at the 'out of stock' TTS decoders, none of them are for a Diesel / Electric Railcar. So at the current time, accurate Railcar sounds from the TTS range is akin to 'chasing rainbows'.

Going Spare
I seem to remember the GWR railcar (and a number of BR diesel railcars and multiple units) made use of bus and truck engines, in the case of the GWR railcar AEC, coupled to mechanical rather than electric transmission. All the TTS diesel decoders offered are for far larger engines.
