Bachmann on Elink

Recommended Posts

You can use any decoder in any loco with the same pin arrangement (4/6/8/21 pin etc) but some decoders suit some locos better than others. If you cannot get it to run smoothly changing the decoder for a different make can cure the problem.

As the Bachmann loco will not be in the Railmaster database you will have to list it in the loco roster manually. This simple procedure has been covered many times on the forum. If you want to add a picture of the exact loco you can often grab one from a retailers web site, as they usually use the manufacturers product listing for their posted info.

The loco is listed in RM, eLink is simply the controller which passes commands from RM to the track. It does not store any information about a loco.

Most of my locos are Bachman and work absolutely fine in RailMaster. As Rob says, any non Hornby loco can be added manually to RailMaster as can most non Hornby DCC decoders.

The links below were written on the old forum and contained images to support the text. Unfortunately, these historical images have not yet appeared on this new forum and may never appear. There is however enough information in the text to assist with the adding a loco manually process.

Manually adding a Loco to the RM Database.

Yes, but as stated you do not put anything on the eLink. The loco is listed in Railmaster, which is the operating application on your PC/laptop.

Although the Next-18 decoder is unlikely to be recognised by RM it will still operate it.

Hornby do not make a Next18 decoder so if you wanted to use a Hornby 8 pin R8249 basic decoder then you would have to carefully remove the Next18 circuit board from your loco (noting each of the 4 wires connected to Pick-ups and motor) and either solder these wires directly to the new decoder or, preferably, solder in an 8 pin socket. If your Bachmann loco has lighting then it gets more complicated.........HB
