New layout. Need ideas.

Hi all,

I have 2 x 6x4ft boards that I plan to place to each other to form an L shape, making them 10ft on the longest run, 6ft the shorter end of the L shape if I'm making sense.

Can anyone suggest some layout ideas for such a setup please ?

I'm hopeless working out track layouts.

Get Ultimate Racer. You can then design the table and try various things out.

General tips are:

try to get the longest possible straight in the layout

Many don't like R1 curves but they are sometimes unavoidable. I personally find the 22.5° R1 a nice compromise.

Thanks Andy, I'll give Ultimate Racer another go.

I find it hard to setup the initial layout and dimensions.

It isn't massively intuitive but the documentation is fairly good.

When I do events I measure the space / table available, shrink it by 10 cm (~5 inches) in all dimensions to account for things not fitting properly and plan in ultimate racer.

If I then have time I use masking tape on the floor and actually build the layout to be sure it all fits. Otherwise I take lots of 78 and 87 mm pieces with my and other curve radii.

To date I have been able to make things fit. :-)
