Turntable

You need to be a bit more specific by what you mean by the "use a separate power supply" comment.

If you mean the power to rotate the turntable. Then that should be completely independent from the power that is present on the turntable rotating bridge rails and therefore would normally be a separate supply anyway. It is independent on the Hornby R070 DC TT.

If your question is actually relating to whether you can use a turntable designed for a DC powered track layout on a DCC powered track layout, then the answer is probably yes with appropriate modification. One would need to know which turntable brand model you are considering to provide more detailed guidance.

If you are considering the Hornby R070 DC turntable, then navigate to the 'Hornby DCC FAQ Index' sticky and follow the link to FAQ number 3 which describes in great detail how to modify and use this Hornby DC TT on a DCC layout.

The Hornby TT has two distinct things to consider.

The TT trackbed takes its power from your track system, be it DC or DCC. Some wiring mods may be required per the advice referred to by Chris above.

The TT rotation can also be powered by DC or DCC.

In your case one controlled channel of the HM2000 can be connected to the rotation motor and speed and direction of the TT can be eye balled onto the next slot as required.

In the case of DCC powered rotation a loco decoder is spliced into the DCC track power bus and works under normal command as a loco from the DCC controller, also as explained in the Q&A.

My all DCC TT uses Solution 2 Fig 4 in the Q&A guide and it works fine. You can just see the black IRJs between the ramp tracks and the main tracks.

Just to reiterate all previous comments. The HM2000 controller can be used to rotate the Hornby R070 TT. The track rails on the bridge of the TT will pick up their power from the track supply, in this case DCC. There is no electrical connection between the bridge rails and the rotation motor. The TT will however need to be modified for DCC as instructed in the FAQ 3 tutorial else you will generate a short circuit and trip the DCC controller when the TT bridge is rotated.
