R3853 is a 48DS loco plus flatbed wagon.

There are loads of threads and posts on this forum with regard which direct fit 6 pin decoders are suitable for this model, not all are apparantly.

I don't have one of these so I can only guess. In the Terrier I used a Zimo MX616 which is really small, but if it is like the Rocket where the decoder wraps above the socket then a 6 pin leaded Zimo MX617 will probably do. These decoders have a maximum current of 0.8 amps compared to 0.5 amps for a Hornby equivalent, so if they are like most Hornby 0-4-0 locos, are better suited.

The 48DS is nothing like a normal 0-4-0. It will not accept any form of harness decoder, it has to be a direct fit one due to the tiny small design. Granted the Rocket was similarly sized, but the Rocket had a harness suitable design due to the barrel. The 48DS recess where the direct fit 6 pin decoder is inerted is very tight and it has been commented on this forum that some direct fit 6 pin decoders are bigger than others and will not fit in the space provided.
