DarkRedCape
There will have to be a reservoir onboard, I’d imagine they could just reduce the size of this for smaller locos so they can cram everything in.However, if I had to guess at a reason for the delay, I’d probably go with issues squeezing it all in there too. Simmo009
The Black 5 was announced January 2022. Even without lights, smoke etc, experience tells us a new tool is unlikely to be seen within 3 years of first announcement. My 2MT should be here soon, 3 years after it was announced. The only mystery is why anyone gives credence to the dates Hornby provide, or why they bother giving any at all. I prefer to wait for quality than have something rushed and be less than satisfied, especially with the prices now. I expect the steam fitted models will be pushing £300 or above by the time they break cover.
DarkRedCape
Still pretty new to this hobby and I’ve learned very quickly that the release dates Hornby give should be ignored.I place a pre-order, put the original release date into a spreadsheet, then basically forget about it. I know some people don’t do the whole pre-order thing, but if from announcement to release is anywhere from 1 to 3 years away, chances are it won’t even be available to purchase on release. The Elite is available on the website and that doesn’t have a release date at all. In my opinion, Hornby should announce a product when it’s finished production, so the model is made, there are no hiccups and setbacks in design and it’s being put on the boats. As it is, they’re announcing locos that aren’t even on the drawing board.
ColinB
You are not going to like this but after buying the latest class 92 from Accurascale, the immediate thought that goes through your mind "is why is Hornby bothering". They are always late, super expensive and just lately short on quality. Sorry someone has to say it. I have the latest 9F produced by Hornby and I have to admit it is good, but when I look at the price for the new class 87, it is more expensive, will have a cheap plastic pantograph (compared to a driven metal one) and be at least two years too late. My latest Hornby Doublo Duchess is a disaster, did they not think I would run it?
