Would be useful to know which controller you are using?

However, in general, you do it by:

  • connecting the input to the programming track
  • program the group address to port 1 which automatically programs the other ports
  • example 1 - program 1 to port 1 and ports will be 1,2,3,4
  • example 2 - program 2 to port 1 and ports will be 5,6,7,8 etc

But it comes pre-programmed to ports 1-4 so no programming needed if you have one only 8247, just use as is out of the box.

Except, if using a Select, it only allows port numbers 61-99. So you will have to program 61 to port 1. Make sure it is the only thing connected to or running on the track when you do so, either by removing everything else or connecting the Select directly to the decoder rather than the track.

Point motors - no programming needed. Just connect correctly to a port. Make sure you correctly identify the common connection as per instructions. If you get that wrong, it will throw one way but not the other.

If any two points are paired as in a station bus stop layby or cross-over loop to loop then you can wire them both into one port and get away with only needing one R8247.

Other accessory decoders are available for a similar cost which are self learning and much easier to use as they do not need to be programmed.
