Thanks for your quick reply 96RAF , the package that it came in states the following:

CE/FCC Certified for Security Assurances. With Over current protection; Over power protection; Over voltage protection; Short Circuit Protection.

Should I check it myself anyway as a double check ?

 

 

Sounds to be a good spec but always worth doing a simple short circuit check by connecting to a length of track and placing a coin across the rails. It should self protect almost immediately, if your coin melts then user beware. You can use a multimeter to check overload voltage and over-current shut down but you may need to add in some test components like a hefty wattage resistor as a load.
