Is the chuff to wheel synch correct on this BoB

Recommended Posts

Watching the video I counted 6 chuffs per revolution which is correct for a 3 cylinder loco.

Model locos without a chuff sensor so often have the chuff rate far too slow 😞

I got the 6 chuffs per revolution as well NTP.  I was confused until you mentioned 3 cylinders.  Thank you!

I mark the orientation of the crank pin to the coupling rod, and simply count the number of chuffs until it returns to that location.  In this case, 6.

Looks about right to me

Sounds about right to me, although my memory of hearing one close-up probably has to go back to before the 1959 electrification.  I also seem to recall the rebuilds had a slightly different sound even with the same overall synchronisation.  Different valvegear & blastpipe/chimney, perhaps.

NTPNTPNTP got it 100% right - 2x triplets - 6 chuffs per revolution.

The distinct double triplet sound still hasn't been mastered in model form, but at least a fairly consistent 6 chuffs per revolution are.
