Fishmanoz
Hi gasway, welcome to the forums. So are you telling us that it has directional lights, the White forward light works whichever way the loco is going, but the red rear light only in one direction? And has that red one ever worked, or is it non-functional from new? If the loco is new, take it back. If you want to check it yourself, you will need to remove the body as per the instructions with it, then I would look for a wiring problem first. The LED light may be broken but these are very reliable so unlikely.
96RAF
If its not going back and you intend dismantling it then download the associated Hornby Service Sheet for the R-number of your particular loco. This is likely to be HSS276 as the other service sheet HSS376 is for the Railroad Class 31 which doesnt have lights.Looking at the service sheet the lighting arrangement is fairly complex but it could be as simple as a wire off at the light box at one end or where the wires connect to the ends of the main circuit board. 2e0dtoeric
Is there a switch undeneath the loco that turns off the red lights at one end, for when it is towing a rake of rolling-stock? That might have got itself switched off! It will only be a tiny thing, so look carefully!
