AJ Models
Some nice liveries appearing over the last year... Hope Hornby can include them in next year's range.COLAS CLASS 37 (TTS)/media/tinymce_upload/1f571ff101501ccdcc9b54b7876cef7c.jpg CALEDONIAN SLEEPER CLASS 87 (RETOOL)/media/tinymce_upload/8395b306c2f1e5d55c4966c327ff7787.jpg COLAS RAILFREIGHT CLASS 86 (RETOOL)/media/tinymce_upload/2695a4d754ac84c51d4d581968f4c349.jpg EAST COAST CLASS 91 *SKY 1 HD AD* (RETOOL)/media/tinymce_upload/16ec665d43f17c24e27701a5c99688ac.jpg CALEDONIAN SLEEPER CLASS 86 (RETOOL)/media/tinymce_upload/6ba2807f8b8a6c00dfdb409cde17eb42.jpg EAST COAST CLASS 91111 (RETOOL)/media/tinymce_upload/63b318fe70caf83522c3c79fd735a8f7.jpg VIRGIN TRAINS EAST COAST CLASS 91 (RETOOL)/media/tinymce_upload/f16c146f1cd993f00f382b4401a2ef6f.jpg CALEDONIAN SLEEPER CLASS 92 (RETOOL)/media/tinymce_upload/5882a2df750ef9e035abf80d18db35e8.jpg CALEDONIAN SLEEPER CLASS 67/media/tinymce_upload/54837cff3ef3fce551121570ae157621.jpg VIRGIN TRAINS EAST COAST CLASS 43/media/tinymce_upload/884f2bd9b00963145ea6db86fe26b6fb.jpg COLAS RAILFREIGHT CLASS 60/media/tinymce_upload/8eff677a56b5dd4b0107c4a2ac81b285.jpg D B SCHENKER CLASS 67/media/tinymce_upload/4909330d9e82b61e9b95c2a14b3c750d.jpg
2e0dtoeric
Pretty colours - but none of those would find a home on my railway - they are too modern! (And most are overhead electrics!) :-)
Fazy
Not my thing really. You might be lucky and get one, two at a push. Less likely if you want model upgrades.Hornby tends to spread new ranges around time periods and between companies. Ps what's up with the new class 68. walkingthedog
Sometimes I wish I modelled modern traction with the varied colour schemes. Fazy, Dapol are making the CL68.
Fazy
Dapol!... By the time it's released they all be in the scrap yard
Ozwarrior
I'm with you AJ! I love the modern scene; it is so much more varied than the flogged to death transition era. Wall to wall black with grey and bauxite/brunswick with maroon. Well to my tastes anyway! Financially I suspect the best bet for electrics was the 90 but the B team's doing that now.OHLE adds so much to a layout IMO as if nothing else it provides height as does powerlines. I was at a show last weekend and there was a layout (modular) with the standard Hornby International catenary and the comments from Joe Public were very favourable.Regards (even to kettle lovers!),Les

AJ Models
Good point Oz, OHLE. I think Hornby can do with a Class 86 after the Danish company decided to make something and just call it a Class 86.
AJ Models
Whilst not completely modern i.e. 2015 modern, I think these will also be a nice suggestion. LCDR
'Modern Image' means many things to many people. The contemporary scene is admittedly extremely colourful, and this adds variety to what has become a fairly boring range of types. I say boring because individual areas and routes tend to be provided by only a few classes, and all freight services are hauled by 66s nowadays. At York all we seem to get are 91s, 220/222, 180, 185, 158, HSTs, 150 and 142, with 66 exclusively on freight.Although most things were painted blue in Corporate days the variations of types through York were considerably more interesting. 20, 25, 31, 33 (ocassionally), 37, 40, 45, 46, 47, 50 (occasionally), 55, 56, 101, 104, 105, 108, 110, 111, 114, 123, 124, and HST. The variety of freight too was considerably more interesting in those days. Today it seems to be endless runs of HHA, HTA or HIX wagons, very little else. However I remember when there were marshalling yards at York North, Leeman Road and Dringhouses. Trains were made up from a whole host of different wagons. Some of course left over from the steam era, minerals, vans, presflos, etc. but also Speedlink trains, trains of various petroleum products, Freightliners, steel trains composed of BAAs, BBAs and BDAs. vans of chocolate, chemical tank trains of caustic, acid, gas and such like. And of course endless trains of HAA MGRs.I may be a bit biased, but today I don't get as excited by the passing rail traffic as I did 30+ years ago.
