  1. Thank you Moccasin now the reaction icon is a nice touch, that works.
  2. Is it just the community page which has been meddled with or is it the rest of the site? has unprofessional I mean that Hornby decided to make it live rather then keeping it hidden well the bugs where ironed out. And just left the older version active.
  3. What has happened! Ok the picking the brands option is just about bearable but really isn’t necessary and should be an option in the banner at the top. you then get on to Hornby page 1 and all the topics on page one are pined and locked! The following pages are old. Go to the Hornby logo or the Hornby text and you are taken to equally useless topics! So I tried to go to page 1 by the page finder on the second attempt i finally found the normal page layout with usual 6 top topics locked at the top and I’m able to able to enter and read the new topics/ posts. its a car crash of a website designed by a someone who doesn’t know how to design a website! It’s not user friendly at all. Failed the most basic rule of 3 clicks. It needs resetting to the old version and someone else to try and fix it, if possible. in today’s world, the website is the first port of call for many. This is unprofessional, hard work and off putting. highly likely to make people frustrated and to go elsewhere. I’ve seen people asking if the discussion forum is still open on Facebook. Not a good thing at all. Now I know I haven’t tried the rest of the website partly because I have no interested in buying anything from Hornby at this point in time. & partly because I don’t have the patience to try to figure out the navigation if it’s been changed. I am going to hope that it’s not a complete overhaul of the website cus really I’m not going to bother and just go elsewhere.
  4. No I haven’t tried any stencils as of yet might give it a go the next time I do some. I was just looking at the picture again and it’s dawned on me the green one is tissue. The other are packing paper! I’d forgotten about switching to that. It’s the none greasy type you get when you have a model delivered. And I think one is rizzla paper need to be really gentle with that but it folds much better the one in front of the break van. The pipes are just plastic tube available from most good model shops for those interested.
  5. I use tissue paper, scrunch it up wet it place in the wagon and press it into the shape you are hoping with. Add a few drops of PVA glue and brush it all over let it dry. Then paint it black when the paint is dry add some PVA and sprinkle coal dust on top. tarpaulin loads make some cubes out of cardboard using PVA glue and scissors place them on open wagon. Take a piece of tissue cut to rough size. Soak with a water and PVA mix gently apply over cardboard boxes on the wagon and allowed to dry. paint accordingly. String maybe used to replicate the ropes. Imagines to follow
  6. I haven’t had her on the layout yet bit too cold. On the test track it’s very smooth and quiet runner, so much so I’m tempted with 56 074 to go with 023.
  7. Sorry not Hornby but is my latest purchase. It’s an outstanding model.
  8. Is the hobby dead? No there’s plenty of people still modelling. However I do think in the current economic environment we are going to see more companies go to the wall. Who’s at risk? everyone is modelers are a strange bunch me included, we want more detail but want it more robust. We want better quality of running but want it cheaper. We want that class but not in that livery. We want big ticket items, but need them to work on toy curves. We want it now and don’t want to wait because of research tooling etc needs to be carried out. most of the well known one offs, have or are being produced, yes the are still a few but the numbers are getting smaller. there are plenty of work horses left but they don’t carry the wow factor or have such a large demographic appeal. cost is becoming a factor for the modeller is £160- 200+ really worth it for a up to date model especially if you already have one. Case in point the Accurascale 37. Lovely model I have one and have two more on order but at 3 ft on the layout the Bachmann (older tooling) is just has good. so we have producing model railways locomotives Accaurscale, Bachmann, Hornby, Heljan, cavalex, SLW, KRModels, Dapol, rapido and revolution. any of these could go under, SLW dose some beautiful models but how many class 24 & 25 does anyone need? The market for other diesel is pretty sown up. Accurascale do brilliant models, but still a young company and production of large batches works for the customers but if they don’t sell for what ever reason it could send the company to the wall. arguments can be made for any of these companies. Hopefully they will survive but don’t be shocked a few do shut up shop over the next few years. Coming out of an economic downturn can be more dangerous for companies.
  9. You have two options the way Hornby does it. You know what’s coming and everyone has something to A look forward to and B budget for. Yes somethings may take several months even years to get to the selves but we know it’s coming. Or the way Bachmann now do it, it’s been produced and is on its way. You have anything from a couple of weeks to 3 months before it gets here. in today’s world the catalog is a thing of the past, no longer needed has the internet can do the same job cheaper faster and better. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hornby drops the catalog in the future. Especially if Hornby carries on getting heat over production delays which are beyond Hornby’s control. Why would you bother? Just stop with the big announcements in January and follow Bachmanns idea. Bachmann did it because of the same reason mounting delays and constant criticism. Criticism is bad for business especially if it’s a small company and Hornby is just a small business. It might be a big name but not business.
  10. They are lovely images, and dose make research interesting even if in the long run don’t always help researcher, depending on the specific question the researcher is trying to answer. has for the locomotion I am very tempted to get one though not 100% sure if I should. Other then I did manage to have a footplate ride on here back in either the late 70s early 80s when she was at beamish. I’m pretty sure there was a second early loco there at the same time. But can’t remember which
  11. You praise them of at the bottom. And pop them back in when done.
  12. So the 1925 are not ture prototypes? I can understand that but we don’t have any drawings of the original ones either. How can a prototypical model be made? It becomes guess work the dawnings from the date are just starches not the best starting point for a model. we then end up with either making a model of something that exists and pleases some or a model built on guess work that might not be accurate. has for the wagon well many people just want a wagon that gives the impression and Accurascale has managed that. Hornby could well do a wagon that is S&DR. No idea dose one exist? If yes there’s a slime possible but if not then why bother. The money in research tooling etc could go towards other projects. personally I might stick my hand in my pocket if the rocket was redone in the rebuilt form with the cylinder drop more horizontal and in green. Could then buy a couple and rename one to a sister engine and have a small layout of the L&MR.
  13. The more features you add the more cost, no way round it, mind some of the high end American model are just amazing to look at. However they make Bachmann top range prices sound cheap. So it’s really down to customers what do you want bells and whistles or affordability.
  14. There was some great photos of the damage caused on the net at the time. I didn’t relieise it was that long ago now I would have guessed 10-15 years at most, scary how fast time flies. But has speed is normal measured by distance traveled (normally miles) over time. I think Mallards record is save. Has the distance was in only in yards before the big bag and hish that followed.
  15. Simple, look on the Bachmann spares site? It’s down for a couple of days for maintenance but should be back up come Monday. Or give them a ring. Look for the spares department phone number on their Main website. Yes they have two websites.
  16. Watch some videos on YouTube get an idea how to achieve what you want. Fixing powders either hairspray or spray varnish, available from hobby shops model shops or Games Workshop if you have one in town. brush on varnish can drip and course puddles. though gloss varnish brushed on in small places will give you oil marks and water gathering ie top off tender. powders you can buy the dedicated powders, or you can buy pastels from art shops and grind them up or even use the wife’s make up! start with a wagon or something cheap has a badly weathered £200 model isn’t going to sell.
  17. When I bought the bachmann class 20, 24,25 and 47 all had 21pin decoders 20ish years ago the class 20 didn’t have lights but the pcb had pads to add lights which I did later. Hornby is a bit slow on such things. Only moving to the 21 pin decoders when everyone else are moving to the Plus x and Next 18.
  18. The older princess Royal models are under size all over the place. Including the boiler diameter. Try with the newer model
  19. got two new, well one new and one new to me. Two class 37s the Bachmann phenix 37-800 and Accurascale DRS 37-607. Both lovely models
  20. The coal pusher is more than just the bit inside. If you look at the tender hoper back plate Hornby are adding a small box and some pipe work when it’s not necessary.
  21. Falling standards? the model isn’t even out yet. model wrong? How so it did run like that. or are you going to take up the point about the Rocket never ran on the M&LR in yellow?
  22. What’s wrong? Because I went through the LMS princess royals loco profiles. All seemed correct. The boilers did get switched around abit which dose shorten the time period. 6205 is also correct for the beginning of her life, but wrong for its majority.
  23. Princess Royals are all accurate for certain periods. What’s not accurate is the steam pusher in the coal bunker! Only one had it. And a second was fitted to the same tender for about a year months give or take before returning to the original engine.
