  1. Nicholas344518 The bottom Crain is the one I built it’s a good size for a small layout. If designed right would trundle around a small layout lovely.
  2. well the model detail is the same as a standard model, being die-cast it obviously costs more, I can’t say the metal body costing will take up all the price difference. There are other things that must be considered price. The package will add a few £s 5-10 tops I’d say. also because of the smaller run 500 in the case of City of Leicester. each setup costings are spread across a smaller number of models. one thing about the DoubleO model that is better if you zoom in on he image is the lining. Especially on the boiler. Not only is it finer the shade is better. is it worth the extra money is up to the buyer. Saying that I would only buy another if they did City of London in BR red, King GeorgeV in BR green and a LMS war time blank stream liner.
  3. No sorry, lol. I bought them when I was modelling BR, and to be honest I might be daft but I’m not that daft that I would re-spray a DoubleO model. and I thought it would get picked on if it didn’t have a friend in the same livery… honest.
  4. Here’s a standard model vs the Hornby DoubleO model which is on the box.
  5. The locomotive body is cast metal on the New Hornby DoubleO range, a nod to the old DoubleO. But with up to date detail.
  6. Good point I had forgotten about eBay. I often buy from there too. Many shops are on eBay, Rails of Sheffield for one. But I guess that proves the point you need to be where people are and they are not always where you want them. They have the shop the website and eBay all bringing in the money. Amazon I have used but rarely I suppose that to start a shop from scratch would be a huge investment both money and time all the goods obviously but the web presence too. I can’t imagine it being doable for one men. Unless you can get a prime site shop and build up. Getting staff as and when.
  7. Well Model shops are out there so that in itself proves model shops are viable. ill leave bricks and mortar establishments alone has I have limited knowledge of the subject. internet on the other hand, I’ve recently completed a degree in Graphic design and E media. This basically is digital graphic design (designed on a Mac) standard design work such as Logos flyers posters etc along with clip art emojis animations video editing and website design and building. yes part of my degree I had to design and build a fully working live website with links to YouTube Instagram, TikTok Facebook. to sell on the internet you have a choice of three options sites such has Facebook Marketplace, it works but it’s not brilliant because if your not on Facebook you not going to be directed to it. Etsy or similar websites, though good are more for artisan, your own website. To make a website work is very much a full time job in itself, you have a website address all set up a lot like a new shop on a road however the road is a dead end and no one goes down ever! You need to advertise. How to do this google will not help unless you pay them a lot of money to put your website at the top of a search result. So not only do you now need to up to date your website you now need to open a Facebook account dedicated, a instagram account and say a TikTok account all needing at lest twice weekly posts on each page, all accounts need to be interlinked to direct viewers to your website. now all you need is to do is design and produce videos tutorials, informational, pieces, for Facebook TikTok and. Instagram. To gain interest and followers. this alone is full weeks work for one! If you think just saying I have a shop on here and Facebook will work it won’t people are funny creatures they’ll say one thing when asked, but do another five minutes later. forgot YouTube is also a excellent advertising resource plus depending on your website any videos and images are probably going to need a online storage solution so your website you run can link to YouTube and stream. not to mention good old fashioned advertising in magazines. that’s a lot of work but customers won’t come to you if they don’t know your business. Hardly anyone one uses all the platforms. So you need to use has many platforms has possible to attract as many people as possible. design and development is a totally different question and I will leave that for another time.
  8. just checked 247 the part number is (CH 23) Jubilees double chimney. £2.50.
  9. There’s a video on YouTube showing here of in black, not running but still.
  10. sorry just found this post. Now I’ve butchered quite a few Jubilee’s over the years to make all the variations, if memory serves the chimney is a push fit though may be glued I’ve never taken one off though I had corse to fit a chimney to one after buying a body of eBay cheap minus the the chimney. ( 247 developments) don’t know if they do a double chimney but you could ring them. isn't Bahamas a LFB, where Hong Kong is a SFB.
  11. Thank you Alan, reordered. For the relatively small price increase considering the price anyway I thought I’d give it a go. Will have to see how good the sound is now.
  12. Hi Al, (presume that’s your name) right I’ve looked at the Turbomotive R 30134 at £266.49 ( should have written the prices down) anyhow my order is for R30134X at £290ish though no longer showing on the website. Can’t find R30134xs either. Now I don’t recall ever seeing the XS. so before I go of on a rant, has Hornby changed X to XS. Or did Hornby release a third version without giving enough notice to buyers who had already placed an order in good faith not knowing a more advanced model would become available.
  13. It’s likely to be the valve gear, you need to run it slowly at eye level and see if anything is catching obviously do both sides, the valve gear is very delicate and is easily bent. If it is that just straighten the miss behaving bit. another thing could be the gears which is a different kettle of fish. And well need further investigation. if it is the wheels you might be able to find a set on eBay or peter spares. They pop up now and again
  14. I have to admit I’m with you atom3624, to do with the smoke deflectors. But I think the LMS added the smoke deflectors to 6202 on account of its soft exhaust beat. it is a interesting loco to model, she was designed never to be a express passenger. But more of a stopper/ commuter engineer where her top speed was only about 70-80mph but she could get to her top speed much faster than a conventional engine. there is a video of a steam model of 6202 the sound it makes is quite soft and unique. The video isn’t brilliant but you get an idea of what she would have sounded like. It will be interesting if Hornby can create a sound chip for her as I would probably get one. Unless Hornby has since announced one and I missed it. looking forward to mine and hope Hornby pulls out a blinder on it.
  15. Hornby LMS princess Royals are correct to my knowledge though 6205 technically is correct for the first 6-12 months of its life before the valve gear and valve gear casting was altered. A bit of a shame they didn’t model her as she was later. Image showing what they should have done! The boilers did get switched around a lot so if I remember correctly they are correct for a certain period of each engine’s life. 4612 door would have been better if they had gone for the Fowler wing nut locking system as she carried this longer then the latter door type. One thing that does irritate me it the coal pusher! Only one loco ever had a tender with that fitted. Though the tender was attached to sister engine for 6 months possibly 8.
  16. Another bash I’ve been doing is upgrading the old Hornby/ Mainline, first of a modest rake. The main chassis has been switched for an open frame type more prototypical of a tank wagon. The one on the left is done the other is has made by Hornby/ Mainline.
  17. I had two Bachmann BR short pipe wagons which I bought when I was modelling early British Railways. But switching to LMS had no use for them so I thought I would bash them into the LMS Tube wagon. They have since been painted.
  18. 94 seems longer then that. I don’t remember ever getting anything without a plug as an adult.
  19. JJ batteries not included, in 1978/9 it was Plug not included! I think it was the mid 1980s where the law changed where electrical items must come with a fitted plug. Others might remember better than me. But I do remember having to wait to play with some things tilll my dad fitted a plug.
  20. To my knowledge all parksides were sold with metal wheels full kits before being sold to peco, though I believe the kits where changed to metal wheels from plastic at some point (before I got back into the hobby) Just chassis kits I don’t know as I’ve never bought one, but would be interested to know. I have bought a few LNWR 8ft bogies which do come with plastic wheels. Which didn’t get used. they are very flimsy when building but once the glue has set and the wheels are in their quite good and free running.
  21. Parkside are good kits and come with metal wheels. Now owned by peco hence me getting mixed up.
  22. oh are those ones with the plastic wheels? If they are I just bin them before I even start
  23. If it wobbles the chassis isn’t built straight/ square. Buy a small cheap shaving mirror and build the kits on it. cheep way to get a perfectly flat surface for building a chassis. Use plastic weld to fix them together gives a much stronger joint. Otherwise they’re not a bad kit cheep and cheerful. liquid gravity and two part epoxy is a must for better run quality.
  24. Well I wasn’t going to get these when they where original announced has I was modelling LMR 1960s but has I’ve switched to the LMS 1930’s I thought why not, the rest of the set is on it’s way and Queen Mary is on pre Order. Mind the Coronation Set looks good two! Could I live with myself buying a A4! Always liked the Silver Fox.
  25. Digital or E-magazine (Electronic) are the same thing, the terminology used is down to the individual but should stick to one. To use them in the same piece of work isn’t a good idea and can lead to confusion by the reader.
