  1. Well whither he’s impressed or not 96RAF he is either very committed to his job or he’s an insomniac. thanks to him and everyone who has replied here.
  2. Yes once it bounced I had a feeling it was the hyphen, but thought I’d double check. Anyway the reset. Code worked and let me be able to set the thing up, but it took 4 attempts to get the thing to work, sound file were missing something, on the 3rd attempt I reset the decoders I even wrote the password down. Didn’t ask for it though still had yellow on the sound files health check, but this time images icons had loaded for the sounds. On the fourth attempt everything worked. Not sure why, but got there in the end yippee. The sound is loud enough even with the sugar cube. Quite a simple system once you load the right app. I haven’t played around with CVs yet or anything but it works well. the only problem and to be honest its not really and I’m sure it will be improved over time is the small choice of loco class sound files. running the Princess Royal on the Coronation sound file for now. more then happy and will get a few more decoders in the coming months. AI it could be, though I’d would have thought that would have been expensive to use, either way Hornby seem to be taking customer care seriously with this wether human or AI.
  3. Good grief! Re-sent the email has got a bounce back as I copied and pasted email address written as above. So found it in the the document. And got a reply very late pm 11 ish. Didn’t see it arrive. Was not expecting that. Tuesday maybe if I was lucky.
  4. Cheers 96RAF, email sent. Something to look forward to after the holidays I guess.
  5. Ok thank you, I thought I’d missed something, I will get In touch with Hornby after Easter Holidays.
  6. Yes I have read it shouldn’t be too hard to do. But where’s the reset number found? The box came with decoder in a clear package same as speaker two quick start manuals and the sound boxes. Nothing saying reset number for idiots who download the wrong app. There is a little sticker on the out side of the box with a couple of numbers on it one with ten digits stating with a R.
  7. Thank you all for your help, I’ll looked at a few guides including the important notice one. Which got me a little worried. I’ll go to the how to guide and have a good read. Think it’s best, and work though it step by step.
  8. Bought a TXS 8pin decoder fitted all well. went to Apple Store typed in Hornby HM 7000 app. Downloaded the app went to program the decoder. Didn’t get on with it last night, so went on to YouTube had a look to see how it worked! Big problem Apple Store didn’t take my to the 7000 app, and to be honest had forgotten about what ever the other thing is. Never mind I thought so last night deleted the wrong app and downloaded the correct app. Now banging my head against the wall and further reaching on this site had made me wonder if I have gone and dropped a clanger. But in case I haven’t is the Reset passcode available?
  9. Just seen it, wouldn’t touch it with a bargepole. In the 1980’s it would have been seen in one of the free mags with a Sunday paper.
  10. lights are a nice touch but they do add cost to a model, and if your on a budget or just unwilling to spend loads for a model with lights. Absolutely nothing wrong with a railroad model. You could add lights yourself. It’s a lot easier than you might think. It probably easier to buy a kit for the first time the good thing with kits are the hard part is done. You drill out the lights on the model and the light bord fits inside the locomotives and the leds push into the holes you’ve drilled. You follow the instructions to wire them up. ExpressModels is a good website to have a nose. Prices are around the £20-£25 for a diesel. I’ve done all my class 20s. You’ll also end up with a unique model which isn’t available out of a box. Which is one in the eye for those judgmental modellers.
  11. Al, would 1/8 felt washers behind the front bogie wheels help? It would reduce the side play of the pony truck over the wheel axles. This might help with out going to the extent of swooping the complete bogie.
  12. You will definitely find out if you try, thinking about it. your model is the flying Scotsman, the loco is shorter than a princess Royal so you might have a little more room to play with. Depending on the wheel base but I don’t have a HD flying Scotsman to check. Be interesting to know how you get on.
  13. It’s not just the curve it’s your points. If our using set track your going to have problems. if you build close to scale point work and have large radius curves then you will be able to use the flange wheels. you might think why build a model like this, well people want close to scale models (ignoring the OO track gauge off course) the trouble with big locomotives is they run on big curves. Even radius 4 is small compared to what the real things run on at speed even when scaled down to 4mm scale. now I haven’t tried putting the flange wheels on the Hornby model, but I built a Princess Royal I fitted flange wheels to the model at first to see if I could get it to run but the points where just too much even the peco large radius the wheels couldn’t get through. So i cheated and bought a set of Hornby’s flangeless wheels.
  14. Perhaps I'm becoming cynical in my old age but aren't these "limited editions" nothing more than a money-making exercise? business is all about making money. If people want a HD model Hornby would be daft to look let slip a opportunity to the make more money. Even if they feel 500 is the right number it’s still bringing the money.
  15. It’s just limited in the production. No certification is required it’s not mentioned in any information about the HD models.
  16. come on now, it’s only 12 months late. Compared to some manufacturers it could be classed as early.
  17. No because Hornby hasn’t released it yet, so you are worried about something that hasn’t hit the shops yet.
  18. Most? Not even close to everything. Lucky if it’s 20% of classes!
  19. L&YR is a much under represented Railway, the livery wasn’t to everyone’s liking but it did look good. The main coach was deep tan and carmine lake below the window line with an orange line dividing the two colours. Drop lights were Indian red. Beading around the window was carmine. Metal work was black. Roofs where white insignia was gold outlined in black. 3rd class compartments where fitted with matchboard panels giving a mid-walnut to light oak effect upholstery was dark red or plum patterned. A unusual feature of the L&YR was the brake vans being painted Black, possibly with an oxide red frame. only RTR model up to todays standards is the Bachmann 2-4-2t. Though kits are available to build a semi decent fleet. There’s also a 3d printed body available to build another loco which drops onto one of Bachmanns southern 0-6-0. Coaches and wagons are available in kit form. The 8 wheeler stock dose look rather expressive and in model form gives anything pre war 2 a run for its money in looks.
  20. I remember when I got back into the hobby in the early 2000’s the hobby seemed cheap, to what I remembered I got a little spare cash when I started and had £500 budget for my layout. I bought some track a dcc Dynamic for £72! Class 20,24,25 at £50 each and a class 45 at £55! Shocking I know and most had lights, in a couple of years things were double in price near enough. People were up in arms me included. now the price might seem cheap now for a Model to our younger modeller’s even at double the price. But imagine a model Loco doubling at today’s prices that is the shock people had. now to the point when I was a kid I was into my trains I might have had £1.50 - £2 pocket money. I might have wanted a chocolate bar and some crisps over the week or nip into town even go and see return of the Jedi. So I had to save like made to buy just a wagon or some people for the layout. Trains and the like were Christmas and Birthday presents only. the Hobby has always been expensive except for the brief moment of the late 1990s to mid 2000’s. now the trick is to shop around there are some small model shops around which sell models (second hand) at sensible prices not today’s eBay prices. (eBay use to be fantastic for cheap locos when people where selling things at secondhand prices now at trying to make money prices. £80-90 for a Mainline jubilee, really please behave yourselves!) I managed to pick up a dcc ready Bachmann jubilee for £55 only last year from a shop. You need to look around but bargains can be found. The other thing to do is go onto RMweb and fine some RTR bashing topics. Learn how to build and convert models to what you want. It takes time but the reward is you end up with models no one else has and to be honest I like some of those more then a £300+ model from Hornby or Bachmann because they are my work. Ask Al with his super double chimney Jubilee.
  21. Hornby and other companies are not pricing anyone out of the Hobby. Companies want to make a return on their investment/ standard profits are in the region of 15% on products sold. Unless your Apple or the like then you stick the margin wherever you want and make millions. However if your goods cost more to produce, that 15% is obviously worth more and you make record profits. so if you produce a model cost you £ 100 this year you sell it £115. Next year it cost £110 you sell it at £126.50. Hornby has made an extra £1.50 and you might say why Hornby can’t pass that back as a saving to the customer. It’s to do with banks and profit forecasting. Hornby takes out a loan from a back the bank wants to know your expected profit return, The reason for rising costs are plenty and all over the news.
  22. How about a LMS 2-6-2t copy right Fazy not to be copied without permission.
  23. You say you fed up of bringing stuff down from the loft? Do you have a layout up in the loft then? If so is it all on tables? Why not just build a small table next to/ built into onto the layout it’s self? Or you could nip down some charitie shops see if they’ve got a small cheep table. Look underneath see if the legs are screwed on or bolted on to aid in getting them in the loft.
  24. On the work bench are 6 tankers waiting for transfers these are basically Hornby tankers butchered and set on Cambrian open frame’s giving them a more prototypical look. A long with a Falcon Brass chemical pan wagon. Which was a little tricky to build Being Falcon brass but has built a nice little wagon in the end.
  25. Sam is a Vlogger, not a historian, he has very limited knowledge on the subject of railway history. his knowledge of model trains is also sketchy at times. but people seem to like him, if your after seeing a model on a layout… well track on a carpet in his case to help you decide wither you buy a certain model then, he’s as good or as bad as the next vlogger
