Hi Rana Nice looking tank locomotives you got there, it makes one think why can't Hornby do the same and produce real types of tank locos for the 040t and 060t chassis they make rather than the freelance makes, even if they are just for club members.

The last Hornby CEO was the owner of Oxford Diecast and there was a buy out of Oxford Rail to Hornby.

Hi Trevor Have you got the instruction leaflet showing how to use the set? In the set you should have 1 short walkway and 2 bracket walkways together with 2 sets of hand rails and 2 short signal posts and 2 distance signal arms with post clips these are used with the single home or distance signals. The single signals of this period could be motorised using a R633 point motor.

My main collection is, Tri-ang, Tri-ang Hornby and Margate made Hornby, with some China made Hornby along with Wrenn, Airfix Mainline and old OO Lima railways also a selection of Tri-ang Minic Motorway vehicals, buildings and track. OO gauge Corgii trackside, Oxford diecast EFE, and BT/Base diecast vehicals and some Corgi and Atlas OO trams and buses Have old Scalextric in storage and some micro scalextric track and cars. I have dug my old collection of HO/OO Arifix armour etc out of storage with both Airfix and Matchbox solders and Waterloo era solders I am starting back into model making as the new Hornby does not interest me like the old stuff of which I have too much

Hi In regards US paras, I am watching Band of Brothers on sky ( freeview channel 11 ) they have Thompson machine guns rather than M3 grease guns I have never seen the M3 in any episode so far on any paratrooper in Easy Company or any other US para in the series. I could be wrong but Paras would not wear webbing when jumping because of possible issues with parachute harness getting snagged in it, it does not mean they did not have it in their jump bags and put it on once they were on the ground. The Airfix British Paras are ok but the Heller version are better as they have the right weapons for the WW2 period. The Heller US paras are just as good.

Hi Trevor The R089 fits on to the current R169 / R170 junction signal, the original numbers being R087 for a set of 2 signals 1x home signal and 1x distance junction signal. You put two junction signals opposite each and it fills in the gap between the two junction signal platforms to make a gantry. The original R140 gantry made for series 4 track is a one piece construction with four signal posts

Hi Just started this kit my first in 40 years. I read and reread the instructions and identified all the bits. I noticed that there are bits for a gun jeep which don't appear in the instructions, an extra bonnet, gun mount and 2x K type Vickers machine guns, has anyone else noticed this oversight by Airfix? with this kit. I have painted all the bits I need, tomorrow I will start gluing together. I have a second kit so I think I will make the gun jeep with both the Vickers and the .30 caliber Browning machine gun.

The RAF Emergency set was first issued in 1969. the Refueling set was first issued in 1970, the Recovery set was first issued in 1972 all in 1;72 scale., I still have some poorly made versions I made in the 1970's of the recovery and refueling sets, may dig them out of storage to see if a paint job will improve them, some bits may need re-glueing.

I was reading my copy of Airfix Celebrating 50 years of the greatest plastic kits in the world by Arthur Ward, boy have we come along way since 1953, I wonder how many of the molding tools are still left. I have a few classics I would like to see updated and re-released I/72 RAF Recovery set plus RAF Emergency set with figures 1/72 WW1 Dog Fight doubles R.E.8 v Roland C11, Bristol Fighter v Fokker Triplane, Camel v Albatros 1/72 Junkers JU 52 172 C130 Hercules Transport 1/72 Short Sunderland Flying Boat

I guess my problem is as I still run 1950's 60s 70's Tri-ang & Tri-ang Hornby rolling stock like 12t box vans with opening hinged doors and sliding doors, 5 plank open wagons with working hinged drop sides , 7 plank with hinged opening doors, working hopper wagons with a working hinged bottom door, utility vans with 6 sets of opening doors and a rake of 5 Lunt working end opening 7 plank open wagons, and their transcontinental counterparts. Some say they are toys, to me they are more like the real thing than today's offerings. with a few small modifications some of the newer tooling like the older HAA hopper wagon could be made into operating model.

Hi HST Yes the TPO is a great addition to a train set as it give a serious play purpose to it. There are 3 different version of the TPO coach, a small 7 inch version, a large 11 inch version used in the transcontinental, Battlespace and BR range and the Stanier Coach version covering LMS GWR BR and Post Office red. The said could be same for a number of other operating wagons like the Consett Ore wagon / engineers wagon with its bottom drop hatch when used with a gravity unloading bridge, the side tipping log wagon (R345) and end tipping wagon when used with a R528 End tipper set. Its a pity that Hornby does not make more of the play value functional wagons in the Railroad branded section, it could attract the younger generations to the hobby.

Hi Mazak Rot will make the metal expand or crumble, it looks like the black finish has worn away, just repaint the metal chassis with a black spray paint.

Hi Rana, Now I understand why not get a replacement set of drive wheels I know it means you would have 2 sets of wheels with tyres but it would give you 2 sets of plain wheels AC model on ebay have a set. X6246

Hi Rana Have you thought of running a couple of wires from the front Bogie light board to the motor to give extra pickups. It is something I am contemplating on a stripped out DCC converted model I have on my workbench.

A suggestion for an improvement to forum. Is there any way of reversing long topic threads say 6 pages or more so the newest comment is at the start and the oldest starter comment is the furthest away, like when you first enter the forum the very first topic is 26 pages down , you go straight to the newest topic, where in long topics like what's on your workbench you have to go to page 26 before you can see the last comment. Just a thought

As a total non computer literate person its like most new programs it takes time to get use to. Computers are no use us gardeners. I use Windows 10 on here but I still use Vista which I understand better then 10, just give it time, the last forum change was received with the same misgivings.

Hi Rana That the thing I love with Tri-ang / Tri-ang Hornby the commonality of parts, the axel are the same on R351 EM2, R758 Hymek, R751 Class 37 R357 Class 31 and R352 Budd Railcar. I am lucky Peters spares has had some reproductions made if I do need some replacements.
