  1. From what I can remember from my Rocrail programming days, some DCC formats (depending on how many speedsteps) use a combined direction/function/speed(?) command message , while tother formats don't. This is the reason that when using the wrong speedstep setting, the headlights (F0) can react strangely. I got a tip on how to program the decoder to 28 speedstep setting, job for tonight.
  2. I have recently bought a Hamo (=2-rail DC Marklin) DB 86 620 steam loco with digitally controlled couplers. The loco is fitted with a very old (greyer then me) factory fitted Marklin/Lenz dcc decoder. I can use it with my twin center, when I set it to use dcc 27 speedsteps. I can run it with the elite, but no function is working (light, telex couplers, nothing). I tried 14, 27 and 128 speedstep setting in the elite, no effect. A 27 speedstep option is not part of the elite firmware or does anyone have a trick to run this loco in 27 speedstep mode?
  3. @Ray: there are several options. You can create schedules (time tables), using absolute or relative time. There is the option of actions (do something when an event happens, such as sound whistle and close barriers when loco passes a detector before the crossing). There is a scripting option which records all things the operator does and can play it back.
  4. Hi Phil, As you can see in my signature, I am a Rocrail user for my LGB layout. I have involved in adding support for the Elite into Rocrail, since the main programmer of Rocrail strictly sticks to the Expressnet specification (contrary to the Elite firmware). Not hampered by experience, my guess is that Railmaster and Elite, belonging to the same 'family' can work in perfect harmony. Since Rocrail is free, why not go ahead and give it a try, I have not found anything that I can not do with Rocrail. Keep in mind that the learning curve can be steep, But there is a very helpful forum and some instruction videa's. Common beginners fault: Rocrail is not a track design program, less is more is the golden rule. I am sure that Rob will also say something about Rocrail.
  5. And then I suddenly remembered, I have a Select attached to the Eilte as walkaround controller. For the update process to work, I had to unplug the Select.
  6. Hi, although due to health circumstances I have been away here for a long time, I updated my Elite last weekend, with some trouble. I use XP SP3 on an old laptop. I had no problems connecting the Elite, having the com port popping up in the device manager every time, but when updating, I could drain 4 mugs of coffee and the progress bar would still be blank. Only after using an watch to be sure I held the stop button for 15 secs after powering up and the same before plugging the usb cable I was able to update to 1.44. Some where along the line I plugged into the other usb port of the laptop, but when I remember correctly that was not the key to success. I feared that I bricked the Elite, since when stopping the update and power cycle the Elite would not start anymore, but with perseverence and following the procedure to the letter I finally succeeded.
