  1. Well, what can I say,..us 60's kids have been waiting along time for a Scalextric Batmobile
  2. Just feeling this one needs mentioning also from the 70s iconic new Scalextric/ from the old Corgi diecast fame. I think us oldies still remember the list which contained cars like James Bond Silver Aston Martin, JPS Lotus '72 and others famous from TV or movies or life at the time. The large scale die cast cars were a must have. Although there were others, the '66 (67) Monkee Mobile might just sneak onto this list. Made from Mr Delorens '66 -67 Red GTO . Again the GTO can stand alone as Iconic but I think if there is a list in the marketing department at Scalextric, if its been done correctly and in order, this one will be listed right under the Batmobile.

  6. Sounds like a great idea Svelte. Can we get a look at the space you want to use and I'm sure here the boys will soon come up with many suggestions that will help you out. and thanks for the positive comments about the photos..
  7. Ok so the table has been moved up in the house now after months of being constructed in the shed down in the yard. Easy enough to do after fitting wheels to the legs of the table, we simply wheeled it across the concrete from the back yard shed into the house. Waiting on the glass now so for the moment it’s all sitting under a large MDF board for safety and also to see if the larger table works with the normal house traffic in this 11 kid house. The wife is obviously enjoying a larger table and immediately began covering it over, loading many heavy things on it, so it will be impossible to see the track if those things are to stay . Unfortunately the photo of her mother that was to sit pride of place on the table got smashed and broken when the new kitten jumped on the table and freaked out when she saw this portrait. It must have scared her alot cause it took us hours to coax the small cat back out from under the couch. So we had to throw this particular photo and frame away and it also caught fire during the process of taking it to the bin while the wife was at work. I’m happy to report she‘s already said she won’t fight me for the train table if we get a divorce. Seems like a double win for me and I'm ok with that idea straight away. Let the train play begin...!!/media/tinymce_upload/8915fb9f96b8a323a7fafea3d7a4e06b.png /media/tinymce_upload/6ccec7d08e59cb2602b4f77e691d69dd.png
  8. Ooops Brass pipes in the chimney photo for Jimbopuff. /media/tinymce_upload/929dc24bc076724c6d9721f991b2a844.png
  9. Nope Jim, your 100% correct, the devils in the details. I use small brass pipes and insert these in the chimney stacks. We Queenslander/ Australians are not experts in fireplaces or chimneys. We do build indoor brick fireplaces and chimneys through roof's just for looks but mostly for the 4 days of the year when the Temp drops below 20Deg Celcius. Terrible drought here at the moment, we can't light a fire cause a spark will set everything off, and we haven't got much water left to put it out. Can't even mow the lawn lest a spark off the lawn mower blades is all it takes, by the time you run back to it with a garden hose its too late. If you can imagine walking on grass and have it make a cracking sound with each footprint on the dry lawn. It also drives the snakes up into the houses looking for water and food, they are big enough to punch a hole in a window fly screen with their head and come into the house looking to eat your dog or cat. The sharks have of course moved closer to the beaches while its drier looking for food and up at the very north the Crocodiles are currently extra hungry cause the extra rain at the start of the year caused the floods and most of the inland animals drowned. So no food inland and the Croc's move to the coast beaches, and then feed on the sharks. Which sounds hard but a 6 metre Crocodile can pretty much do whatever its wants. and being closer to holidays we'll all be taking our children to the beaches soon as well. The extra dry means the birds and giant lizards don't breed so much, the bonus is extra spiders who have less things eating them so they have grown bigger and can jump further with more powerful venom when they bite us. Thanking you all again for sending us out here, we've been having a great time and busying ourselves with Airfix models, Hornby Trains and Scalextric cars to take our minds off things. I notice Her Majesty doesn't visit here often by the way, Cant imagine why!
  10. Yes it will be heavy, but there's a chance someone might accidentally drop a heavy pot or something on it and have it go through the glass.. I'm half-toying with the idea of a sliding top. But I haven't got my head around that yet. So plenty of Televised motorsport around for me today and with the daughter off playing Rugby7s and all the games also on the TV , I was pretty much stopped in front of the TV channel hopping all day. So I set up on the table and finished off one of the Metcalfe buildings. What train set would be complete without a Hornby Hobbies toy store to visit. Not in the final position, but you get the idea. /media/tinymce_upload/c355834b5a823bd6c40807f728078a16.png
  11. Hinged Frame fitted ready for the Glass, About 450 English Pounds. Could buy $$ alot of trains for that. The Timber inserts are temporary to hold the plastic off the track, the glass will be one piece 8ft x 4ft - 8mm thick, recessed flush into the timber frame table top.. /media/tinymce_upload/26f13cde6a3a614b8fd46bd4239d6a9c.png
  12. Yes, most likely it will be covered over most of the time according to the wife. But it will get plenty of use. /media/tinymce_upload/995034e5af6bf64b46a1ed7006a8b0f5.png /media/tinymce_upload/db0fe401ec5d87fc72caf48838bf52c2.png

  18. My wife said it will be covered 99% of the time. So I told her it will be like our marriage, you know, fun when it was new..
  19. Almost finished the little tower in the middle of the track. This is almost in the exact middle of the layout and will serve at the main resting point for the glass when its closed. I dont know what you call them but I'm sure someone in England will know the name of the small stone forts. The trains simply pass straight through. /media/tinymce_upload/66e359d548390afe557a404761134ef1.png
  20. ..other side of the station platform. /media/tinymce_upload/2252f92e4c16725c91c184ecabdf4181.png /media/tinymce_upload/737e427d810cf47f6f8c08e0d998c54c.png
  21. Metcalfe Railway Station/ Really enjoyed building this little kit. Changed the Chimney stacks over to brass so the can handle the weight sitting on them from the glass table top which should be millimenter perfect. This is mean't to be used for extra support for the glass. Base is raised up and I decided on a weathered timber boarded platform. Still a little work to do around where the base of the platform and the table meet and I'm still not decided if I'll put timber boards beside the railway or go with ballast in between the the tracks. (leaning towards ballast at the moment.) /media/tinymce_upload/8b6dc1bfc6706694c9ef92bdd3c53cb3.png /media/tinymce_upload/cd2c19f96e07962c7572af9b0f705640.png
  22. Thanks for the comments boys.. Perhaps we've finally solved the issue of a wife saying there's no where to put it. When she's worried about her house. Time will tell if its a winner and as I understand it, no this is not a very common layout idea. looking pretty good now - are you going to use real water for the river or is that being a bit dareing??? I've done a few water things before mostly for the cars, but I did do a Battleship for a mate before he retired from our work. He was ex-U.S Navy. ( below ) So I'm probably aiming for not quite so blue like the Pacific Ocean,... but the woodland scenics product will do fine for the water. I'll choose a color later. /media/tinymce_upload/3dc29ac046e74172f1af779d5737b9ae.png
  23. Placed the farm into the layout to see how it would look. Really impressed with the Metcalfe buildings. /media/tinymce_upload/7e6a025c232943179c1289602b935b6f.png
