  1. I've not had an experience either way but do appreciate it when good feedback is shared. Working in a customer role, I'd agree that it is always easier to complain than to publicy thank. Well done to Airfix!
  2. Nice build. I put one of these together in the same scheme. I've spent many days fishing in Yorkshire on the River Swale. One constant distraction was having trainee pilots buzzing around overhead. I probably missed a lot of fish due to them. Happy memories though!
  3. Nice build.. one missing from my collection. So many kits, so little time...
  4. Good list. What are you currently building?

    1959 Wimpey

When I first glanced at the thread title, my initial reaction was 'I did not think that Wimpeys were still flying in 1959'. I then realised that you've actually built a vintage kit 😳 Very nice too and thanks for sharing that this crew all survived.
  6. I've just read the latest news on the Engine Shed about progress updates. This includes the line: We also have two of the Merchant Navy Class locomotives in this issue as well. The R3716 ‘Holland America Line’ and R3717 ‘Aberdeen Commonwealth’. Good, they look great. However, the expected delivery for them is Spring 2020. Back in Autumn 2018 I placed an order for one of their sisters - East Asiatic Company. This has been booted down the delivery schedules many times now - slipping from Spring 2019, Summer 2019, Autumn 2019, you'll know the pattern by now. The current schedule says Summer 2020. How likely is it that something that is largely the same product can be delivered in advance of a model that has been delayed already over a year? If these 'Pre-Order' schedules are not achievable then Hornby will just end up with more annoyed customers and griping posts like this one. Be realistic.. and I'll watch with interest on the actual progress toward delivering in Spring 2020. This makes budgetting really difficult, especially as I've just learned that the other locos I've ordered are being made available after December 24th. Fairly significant slippage.. Happy Christmas all! I'm expecting a delivery of coal.. hopefully behind an engine of some sort.
  7. In some cases, products announced in 2018 are not yet with us and are now slated for delivery in Summer 2020. Still waiting for Merchant Navy East Asiatic Company, which has been moved now 3 times. It makes budgetting a bit difficult but at least the pre-order is £40 cheaper than a new order would be. So I won't worry too much about about 2020 announcements!
  8. As an angler.. lead shot has been banned from use for many years now. Alternative materials are in use for fishing now that don't poison birds if they swallow them. For modelling, the closest is liquid gravity if you need to put the weight into an odd shape. For standard shapes, I use offcuts from car tyre balance weights or some big sea fishing weights.
  9. Summer holiday build? I've just finished (at last) watching the Guy Martin D-Day programme that was on Channel4. This focussed on the role of the Dakota and was an enjoyable watch. Will look forward to your progress updates on this one.
  10. Thanks for the update and pictures. It does make a huge difference. I've got a Fury in the stash as part of my 'development of Hawker' line. I'll be shopping for some rigging thread as well now.
  11. Sorry for the damage Piotr! Your build is fantastic. I hope you can fix it and share the good news.
  12. Thanks for the information about the change from a £20 Club Model over to a £15 on any model. It was not something I was aware of and means that I can now go ahead with spending my Christmas present. Club Admins - perhaps an email shot would help here, or put that into the next club magazine? It would seem as if now is the time to stock up on the remaining Spitfire VB, while it is there. Unless there is a new kit coming into the club range. One alternative suggestion - since the major difference between the standard and club offering is generally the decals, why not arrange something around that? As the decals are now generally being printed by Cartograf what scope is there for them to supply some 'specials' for additional options on the standard builds. This would of course depend on whether you wanted the box artwork to differ.
