  1. Looking at the other Hampden models out there, a cost uplift of 10 to 20 pounds over the Airfix veteran means that some folks will take a punt on this older model. Good luck to you. Currently working on my stash.. which grew over Christmas and will probably get some 2024 new kits too now.
  2. Nowadays I check every kit on receipt, even if it is just going into the build stash. Glad to see you did the same but have had an unfortunate experience with a remote purchase. Perhaps part of the mystery box is wondering whether everything is included. One of the benefits of a LMS is being able to open and check with the staff present. I hope this gets resolved and you will let us know the outcome. It really does affect buying decisions.
  3. Thanks for sharing Tomek. I built one about the same time but it was lost / destroyed during a house move.Glad you still have yours
  4. Lovely builds. I also enjoy picking a theme and put together a collection. I’ve got a black Defiant in 1/72 but seeing this one tempts me back to the shops.
  5. I think this was a poorly timed exercise from Airfix. Yes, the idea of a flypast bundle with an aircraft of each type might have worked but I shall be surprised if many people take up the offer. I've barely room left for the kits I have in my stash let alone another humungous pile.
  6. Thanks for sharing this news (I don't read the Hornby forums). Great work to get people inspired for modelling again. I suspect he'll be spending time building a TT120 model railway and running a gold plated loco on it. Best wishes for a great time, thanks again Simon.
  7. Good luck with the polishing and hopefully you can share the results sometime in the future.
  8. Welcome to the forum Dave. What kit do you have? In particular what is the Airfix reference on the box? It will be Axxx. Someone on here will have built the kit and we can also get a copy of the instructions from the Airfix Tribute Forum, another site set up by a regular on this site, name of Ratch. Happy 2023!
  9. Very nice build and the diorama augments it very well. Thanks for posting.
  10. I like the base/ rod approach to displaying. I'm pretty much out of space and this approach will allow for double-decker stacking. The footprint of a BIII and a Dambuster alongside each other is extensive. I've got both in the stash but not yet got beyond masking the canopies. I'll be a while.. Thanks for sharing.
  11. Thanks for sharing. Nice build there. I've just started my FR8 I got a couple of years back. The instructions say 15g nose weight needed. I'll be following advice from a few other build threads and going with 20g.
  12. How on earth did you manage to miss finding that lot in your attic for so many years? Particularly with the lockdowns we've had where everything in the house got audited. The good news for you is that when those kits were made the moulds were relatively new. Have fun over the next few years building them!
  13. I've got a few modelling strands I've wandered into and a stack of kits that will have to wait years until I retire. As I enjoy the challenge of a complicated airbrush scheme, I started with Luftwaffe 1/48 fighters since there are many examples to choose from. Following some gentle teasing by a friend about only building German planes, I researched and discovered there are actually many schemes for British and Allied pilots that have added a lot of colour to my display shelves in the garage. 1/48 development of the Hawker Fury into the Hurricane (I, IIB, IIC, IID), into the Tempest, the Tornado and finally back into the Sea Fury. WW2 night fighters in both 1/72 and 1/48. More accidental than planned - they're not all night black... RAF post war fighters - 1/48 - Having completed my late war collection, building up the collection of jets that take us from Malaya to the current day. I've still got a few to go. Finally, for a change, I built a couple of tanks during lockdown. The Allies seemed to be one paint colour scheme but the Tiger that I built has the whole varied paint job again. yum
  14. Looks as if it is available again.. hope you get something you like!
  15. Sorry to say this is the way of the world currently. Just about everything has gone up in price everywhere, not just from here. One of the major hidden costs is for the shipping container transport costs. These have quadrupled over the course of the past year and we can't expect manufacturers and retailers to bear these costs forever. I'd much rather all of these goods were being made in the UK but the reality is that most manufacturing is done offshore now. Over time (hopefully this year), these costs will come down again. And don't forget, there are plenty of opportunities to buy from and support other model shops which often offer discount off RRP. Use them or lose them.
  16. Happy Christmas all! I’m starting on my newly landed Spitfire on Boxing Day. Hopefully done for New Year.
  17. I've only just bought the same decals for this kit - so much for doing something different. I've been watching the Hornby programme on Dave channel and those designers put in a lot of work for us. I don't think I'll be doing the detail riveting though - my models are garage shelf ware. I like the fact that it is a mix of bare metal and painted. Not to mention the fact at how brave those crews were in flying missions in a 'cut and shut' recovered airframes. Thanks for sharing.
  18. I've got over a hundred models on shelves in the garage. Some I look at and am disappointed with some of the joins, some at the paint finish, some with the decals, some with my attempts at weathering and washes. No one more critical than me. I've got about 40 in stock that will keep me going. Some of those will have a similar look as the ones I've already built. Hopefully slightly different issues which means I've learned. I've got a job that means I spend the day at a screen. Model building and the result, good or bad, is something I can pick up and work on. Yes - disasters happen and cause a lot of time on fixing them. Part of the modelling process. Onwards and upwards.
  19. Probably more a rhetorical question, given the shipping quote. If it is a literal one, just click remove for the item in your basket. Unfortunately trips over the Atlantic are stopped so I can’t bring one and ship locally. Hopefully you’ll get one there eventually
  20. Very nice. I like the prop spin effect.
  21. Glad to know they will be here in the UK soon.
  22. There's enough on here to keep me busy, along with taking care of some of the build backlog I've got. The imminent arrival of last year's announcements means I'll still likely end the year with more in the stash than I started with 😇
  23. When you do the Defiant, invest in a pre cut masking set for all that Perspex.
  24. Thanks for the plasticard bulkhead suggestion. It would save some of the rattling lead within my own models. 😳 Nice build.
  25. Very nice walk through. I've got a Kate in the stash to build. It may be ready for the Pearl Harbour anniversary on Dec 7th (2021!).
