  1. @Fishmanoz et al - thx to all for the comprehensive answers and correcting my misunderstanding of the situation. I will read up about CV29 as suggested before doing anything else. Kind regards, A
  2. @Fishmanoz : Ah - it seems I am indeed misunderstanding the problem. I had not realised that any changes made to CVs within the HM DCC app itself would be "permanent" on the decoder. I will go away and try this out - thanks v much for putting me straight on this. Regards, Alasdair
  3. laughing Steve I "hear" what you say, but one of my locos runs "in the wrong direction" within the DCC App, and I don't think I can stand it doing so much longer! However if purchasing a controller to enable me to do what I want is more expensive than I am prepared to pay, I accept I will have to grit my teeth and so forth....... Thanks, A
  4. On my TT layout I use the HM DCC app on iPad via Bluetooth, and am very happy with it. I gather that to change any of the CVs however I will have to acquire a "standard/regular" DCC controller, as the CVs can't be changed in the HM DCC app itself. So can anyone recommend the cheapest/simplest controller for me to buy so tht I can change CVs please? If there is another way for me to overcome my problem, I am all ears! Many thanks in advance, Alasdair
  5. "There is another thread which discusses whether it is possible to connect 2 points to a single HM6010 port for double switching for passing loops or other situations where 2 points need to be switched together." I am not sure where this thread is, but I can confirm that I have two pairs of points (i.e. 4 points) wired up with 2 points connected to a single port on the HM6010 - this works very well for me. I use the HM DCC app and would not want to change. I use the Rails Surface Mounted point motors (Rails being Rails of Sheffield) - they come in packs of 5 - I have 10 of these connected via HM6010 units x 2 and am very pleased. I will almost certainly be purchasing another HM6010 and pack of 5 point motors for my layout. Like some others, I am too ancient and decrepit to go burrowing around underneath my layout, and am content to live with the motors "above ground" for the simplicity of things. Good luck with your layout in any event. Regards, Alasdair
  6. This may have nothing to do with it, but have you tried switching the Bluetooth connection (within the Settings in the DCC app)? The choices are Standard or Legacy I think. As I say, this may not be the problem, but if nothing else works may be worth changing this setting just in case. Good luck with getting it sorted. Regards, A
  7. I have also subscribed - looking forward to all future content. Regards, A
  8. Thanks @Rallymatt - this helps me make up my mind to try out an RL in the first instance. High Fell really is something by the way - your YT channel is an inspiration. Regards, A
  9. @Fishmanoz - thank you for the link - I will look at this carefully, as it may well answer all my questions. Pity a turntable may be so far off, but should not matter now if I can set up an RL. Regards, A
  10. @96RAF - thanks for the clarification. I like the idea of a turntable or reversing loop there, but do not know how difficult it would be to sort out the wiring etc. for change in polarity or whatever. May well wait for some considerable time until I have the left hand side and main circuits all running and then see what takes my fancy. Regards, A
  11. @ds - not sure what will be there yet - maybe something scenic, or possibly goods yard with loading bays for animals and coal/warehouse stuff. I plan on getting the left hand side and main loops working first.
  12. I have most of my layout connected - some bits of track and points still awaited - attached image hopefully should show it; is basically 3 sides of a square, or "n" shaped. I would like a turntable on the right-hand side, however I do not have the skills to make or adapt an OO or N gauge one. So might need to wait until Hornby (hopefully) make one. I guess my other alternative would be to have a "reversing loop" (I think this is what it is called, but may be wrong!), again on the right hand side. I have never had/used a reversing loop - are they sensible? Should they be avoided? Are they simple to set up/control? All/any comments/help/criticisms gratefully accepted. Regards, Alasdair
  13. @Fishmanoz - duly noted - thanks for all your help and guidance - much appreciated. Regards, A
  14. "The link doesn't work. But I do recognise the PDF file name and know what drawing you are refering to. The last time I saw that link working was on the previous website to this one. As far as I am aware, that PDF never got transferred to this new website. Here is an alternative working link (tested as working) for that PDF that is not on the Hornby.com site. Track-Geometry-PDF.pdf I have not seen any TT equivalent of that drawing on this Hornby website. I doubt very much if Anyrail has an auto-conversion function. For one thing, the angles and radius geometry between Hornby 00 and Hornby TT is different as extensively discussed in other TT track threads on this forum that have asked very similar 00 to TT conversion questions. Thus it is not that easy to convert even manually a track plan from one scale to the other." Many thanks for correcting my incorrect link, and the further info. Regards, A
  15. "Expanding on Paul’s on (b) - this would be best asked of Anyrail but the answer will almost certainly be no. As well as the different geometry (relative length of straights, 30 degree curves not 45 degrees and point and crossing radius of R6, not any of the curves R1-4), there are far fewer and different track pieces (only one standard point type not two, no Y points, no curve points). You can use an OO layout for ideas but actual design will have to start from scratch." Thank you for this info - duly noted grinning. Regards,A
  16. Hi - can anyone please let me know: (a) if there is the TT:120 Track Geometry plan/diagram that is equivalent to that provided by Hornby for 00 Gauge, for which the link is: (link now updated to be correct, with grateful thanks to PH below) Track-Geometry-PDF.pdf [original link that I showed that is incorrect - Removed. (b) If using Anyrail, is it possible to automatically change an OO gauge plan to TT:120 if using only Hornby standard track? Many thanks in advance, Alasdair
  17. Thanks to magfan and poliss for replies/info/suggestions. I don't see a way to fit speaker and/or decoder in the loco itself, so will look further into idea of double tender, and also investigate further proposed TTS FS - especially if it is under £100, as this makes it about the same as a decent new sound decoder/chip I think. Still very happy to receive any other ideas/suggestions, but I think magfan and poliss have already supplied all I can expect! Regards to all, Alasdair
  18. My R398 Flying Scotsman (tender driven) is currently fitted with Hornby R8249 and runs well under DCC. Am wondering if it is possible to fit sound decoder/chip now in place of R8249 - but don't think there will be enough room anywhere for a speaker? Does anyone know if it is possible, and if so, where speaker is positioned? Has anyone done this with the R398? Would I be advised to sell the loco and look to buy new one with sound fitted, if this is available? All guidance much appreciated! Many thanks in advance, Alasdair
