  1. I was umming and arring about going for the Centenary Evening Star (I already had the Bachmann version and the latest Hornby Crosti version), in the end I went for the Sir Nigel Gresley Train set. I got the Blue streak for my son in the 1980s and as it will probably be going to my Grandson in a couple of years. So I wanted to get a replacement for my collection. My wife managed to get one of the Limited edition 1:1 Collection 9Fs (92212) for my Christmas present so it will be interesting to compare with the other 9Fs.
  2. Sorry should have said still pulls 10. From my tests it would seem; 8 big wheels can pull more than 10 smaller wheels. Which can pull more than 6 (4 driven) even smaller with tyres (only on 1 side).
  3. I set up an oval (radius 3) on my dinning room table. I put 18 coaches on and my Hornby P2 pulled them without a problem; probably would have pulled a couple more but it was already chaing it own tail. I tried this load on my Evening Star (admittedly Bachman) and it just span its wheels, but would pull a dozen without a problem (didn't try more or my Hornby 9Fs). As an aside my son's old tender drive Blue Streak from the '80s pulled 10.
  4. I have a R8211 to. I purchaed 2 extra pairs of rollers so all the drive wheels on my 9Fs are supported and it runs fine. Also my old Blue streak works fine which needs pickups on one side of the tender and one side of the Loco; so needs power to both the track and rollers. The tender sits on the rollers so the loco wheels stay still.
  5. I opened one and did not see any. I'll just check again. Found 'em. I opened the wrong end of the box and only slid it out half way.
  6. Well my 3 open coaches arrived today. Nice detail, just one complaint. They have no couplings; they do have hooks that match the ones on the Roaket and its coaches. I guess one is supposed use the "chains" from and replace the coaches that come with the Rocket, with one of the new blue open coaches as with the replica as recently ran. I got 3 because I wanted to replicate something based on the trains in the old print/drawing tittled "Traveling on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway". This shows 2 Rocket like trains one pulling 4 yellow Rocket type coaches, a red one and a flat bed carrying a landau. The second train (the most Rocket like) is pulling 5 open coaches; 3 very much like the Hornby open one. It's a good thing that I have replaced my couplings with chain from a necklace. Otherwise I would have been short of a few.
  7. Got mine Direct from Hornby. Unless there is a massive saving I choose Hornby. Rails and Hattons if the saving is big. Or eBay if they're all sold out elsewhere. Clicked the above link to the eBay sale and noticed the only feedback left was to say the order had been cancelled. I would reiterate the statement above re buying from eBay. Allways use PayPal. I've got thousends of items over the years and never lost out. As an example recently I wanted an Xbox controller and it had to be Bluetooth. I actually ended up paying for 5. 2 where highjacked accounts, and the money was refuned by eBay. 2 did not have Bluetooth, 1 was refunded by the seller before it was sent, the other, after it arrived and was found not to have Bluetooth (dispite being listed as such). In the end I paid more and got the Latest Xbox Series S version. Thing is, I did not lose out.
  8. Got my email yesterday saying they got my order. Never heard about the pre-order other than to say they got it back in July. Not sure what would have heppened if I'd not cancelled it; seems I would have had little trouble shifting them on eBay, someone taking pre-orders for almost double the price (wonder how that will go?). Did a search on Hornby for R40141, and now seems they have sold out and are not expecting any more. All the usual stockests seem to be sold out to. I wasn't aware it was a limited production run, or perhaps they just underestimated the demand.
  9. Got some money for my birthday and thought I'd check out the hornby site, and saw this item was in stock. Strange as I had pre-ordered 3 from them. Cancelled the pre-order and ordered them from stock. Not sure why this order was not filled; my 2 9Fs where filled no problem.
  10. I always believed ones blood would congele at over 30 mph. didn't realise the whole body would disintergrate. Makes one wonder how people used to manage rinding horses.
  11. Cheers. Wasn't sure if they checked in here or not or even if Community Moderators where in the know. I'll drop them an email.
  12. I see that some of the Golden Tickets are still out there, and in particular the top prize. Now I have opened 2 of my Centenary models and neither have any tickets. I have one other that is for my birthday in November, which is gift rapped and put away. Does anybody know how long these tickets are redeemable? A concern as I guess many of these will be presents, even Christmas ones. Also I noticed the top price is for a trip in September 2020. What would happen if the winner of that prize did not open it until after September, would the prize be valid for another date or redeemable for a monetary value?
  13. I have a Blue Streak train set from the 1980s. It has a oval of Radius 1. I rediscovered it about 10 years ago. The first new train I got was a basic 0-4-0 which of course ran on the track no problem. My next Loco was the Railroad Cock o' the North. Interestingly the Hornby high detail Version had a minimum radias criteria, but the Railroad version, which I believe uses the same running gear, does not. I have run my P2 on first radias turns and it manages it no problem. The only problem I have found is if I go too fast the front bogie jumps the rails, but this happens on all tracks. All 8 driving wheels are flanged, and so far I have not yet found it's limit in pulling power (more than can be said for my 9Fs).
  14. Or alternativly with less sidings for the isolated inner loop; it realy didn't need half the sidings. So I have increased the number of sidings accessable from the outer three loops to about three times the sidings for the inner loop. /media/tinymce_upload/424f342a5e4eadb4d235f3cee44a8f01.png
