  1. A lot of HD operators including me now use Trax controllers which suppiy 1 1/2 amps.for two locos on double track running, they have to fed by two16v AC power supplis such as the Gaugemaster twin 16v ac ouputs.Hammant and Morgan were ok in their day but now getting a bit long in the tooth. Ray.
  2. I think the wheels are chilled cast iron,i used a tipped lathe tool when i turned the wheels on my Triang EM2 to operate on hornby dublo track. The first cut has to be quite deep to get under the hard surface,The setup on my Myford S7.
  3. Anyone remember these, Hornby`s only excursion into N 143 scale made by Arnold and supplied by Hornby some years back
  4. "Not quite the only British Arnold model: I do have an Arnold bodyshell for a French diesel shunter liveried in BR green. I can swap it with the chassis from the French model but it is total fantasy." In all fairness, the only thing that that model had in relation to a british outline was the colour and they got that wrong. It appears that Hornby made Lyddle end which ceased as a range in 2010. Minitrix were superbly engineered chassis which were fitted with British outline bodies, the 9f looked a bit odd but would go up the side of a house, the A4 and Brittannia were fine models Ray
  5. Graham Farish were an old established company, starting out in the 1940s making bakelite components,00 train sets and locomotives with a peculiar form of motor, very erratic. They manufactured flexible track under the Formoway brand in the 1960s along with locomotives, coaches and wagons.Production of 00 models ceased in the 1970s for them to concentrate on N gauge under the Grafar name made in Poole,Dorset. The range was bought out by Bachmann under the Graham Farish range which are now high quality models. As a small point,i have in my cupboard packed away,an N scale Arnold Brighton Belle set marketed by Hornby,it seemed to be Hornby`s only foray into N scale British outline models. I hope you find this interesting. Ray.
  6. The easiest way as GS says is to have two din sockets, one at each position and just plug in a walkabout controller. Ray,
  7. Not to worry.7mm scale is 0 gauge or 7mm to the foot,4mm scale is 00 gauge in the UK.On the Continent, you would use HO which is 3.5mm to the foot but using the same track gauge which is 16.5 mm between the rails. The reasons for 4mm scale in the uk are ancient history now but in the early days,it allowed bigger motors in locos because our loading gauge is smaller which in turn allowed bigger models. I hope this helps,it can be a bit confusing. Ray.
  8. Thanks Atom, owing to advancing years,i find it difficult to crawl under the baseboard and get up into the middle and that`s why i`ve moved to 0 gauge kit building. The lining and numbering are from Fox and painted with Halfords rattle cans.Presently building an 0 gauge WD Austerity 2-8-0. Ray.
  9. This is my DJH kit build 0 gauge Fairburn tank loco against a Dublo 00 gauge tank loco.
  10. By coincidence,i`ve just received an 0 gauge kit to build of an AL1. Ray.
  11. Quote from an earlier post.I think the Triang AL1 is an amended version of the Dublo loco and probably has the Dublo pantograph although I’m not sure about that. However, the running gear is totally different and is incorrect for this loco as Triang originally intended to release a model of the AL2, creating the bogies for that class and changed their mind when a ready made body came their way. Trix also did an AL1 but not sure if it was to their hybrid 3.7/3.8mm scale rather than 4mm. The Trix AL1 is to 4mm scale, the Hornby Dublo model and the Triang loco are slightly over scale.I always think the Trix model is sleeker than the Dublo model. The photo below shows the difference,Trix on the left,Dublo on the right. Ray
  12. Hi,if it`s one of my EM1s,it`s a Heljan model.I have a few Trix models. Ray.
  13. The Trix Twin Collectors assoiciation through their spares service can supply EM1 pantographs but you must be a member to buy them. Here`s a couple fitted to a Heljen EM2. Ray.
