  1. Have a charterhouse southern 903 loco which has traction tyres on the front pair of driven wheels and one has come off. It looks ok but appreciate advice on the easiest way to get it back on. Not having any luck turning the wheels and trying to feed it back on as you can't get to the top of the wheel as the body is in the way.
  2. Thanks for the info. Think its sorted now. Was using the old original Elite manual and couldn't get it to work that way.
  3. Have an Elite v 1.45 and can't get the function keys to work. Following the manual I select the loco and confirm it, then press function key which brings up F00 - F009 on the top line with the loco number underneath it but pressing any number does nothing. The manual shows the address on the top line with the function no. underneath but mine is the other way around
  4. I have a soundtraxx PTB 100 program booster which does my other sound locos fine. Just having no luck reading or changing CV's on this Broadway decoder. Most reads give XXX now and if a write works it is nothing like the value i enter. After more testing today i think the decoder is faulty and going to organise a return unless you think the powerpax might solve the issue but be a pain to have to buy just for this one loco geoff
  5. Just purchased a used sound loco which was advertised as a Broadcom Limited but the paperwork that came with it is all Athern. Been trying to read CV8 in both Railmaster and on the Elite to work out what it is and can't get a reliable read The last 5 reads have shown 24,74, XXX, 78, 255 Have cleaned the programming track and can read other locos fine. There is no brand name on it except made in China. Any idea why reading CV8 would give such strange answers.
  6. appreciate the help know which way to go now
  7. it's my 1st attempt at trying to add a loco with a longer than two digit no. In the railmaster loco list screen the drop down box to add a loco only goes to 99 Have manually entered a 3 digit no. in the field and also added the rest of the info and it seems to have added it ok and when i exit it shows in the loco list screen on the right hand side but can't make it move Trying to read cv1 with the elite after this just shows xxx How should a add a 3 or 4 digit loco
  8. Thanks guys for the help. Never bothered updating the select as this is only the 2nd time I've used it in the more than 10 years I've had it and also I'm in Australia so didn't know what the postage costs would be back to the UK. Only fired it up because I have a mix of about 20 R8216 & R8247 and 10 of these are now spares but each of them seems to have some sort of problem and as I wasn't having any luck reprogramming them with the Elite thought I'd try the Select. Will give it another go using address 61 Want to sort them out as they were over $100 each so it's a lot of $ just sitting there Sent an email to customer service re upgrading the Select and repairing the bad decoders and asking if there's anyone in Australia who may be able to do it
  9. I have an issue with a R8216 decoder in that port one didn't seem to be working so did a reset in REG mode to CV8 and this stopped all the ports working. Tried reprogramming multiple times with the elite and also tried thru Railmaster but no luck. Did the precharge first and also have a program track booster Then tried programming it with my select and this got some of the ports working but when I connect the R8216 back to the elite I can't get any ports to work. Connect it back to the select and it works The select shows number 10 then 30 on startup and I programmed the decoder at 60 as per manual So should the elite recognize the addresses I have programmed in with the select.
  10. Have two locos which i cant read CV 8 or 1 on One is a green Charterhouse Southern 903 and the other is a blue city of Bristol 46237 they give a jerk on the program track when i try and read them but can only get XXX Can't see any R series no.s on either how can i find out what brand of decoder they are so i can reset and whether they 8 pin or 21 pin etc
  11. thanks for the help.It was the blue route lines i was having trouble with but i noticed that it was a point nearby that was putting the wrong direction on the point track pieces and i solved it by speading the points further apart
  12. i originally did my track layout with some crossovers with a point symbol for each point. it looked a bit messy and i thought that as i was going to have both points in the crossover changing together and both connected to the same port i should only need 1 symbol for each crossover. so i deleted 1 point symbol on each crossover. The crossovers are working fine and line up with the direction arrow on the track plan but where i deleted the point symbol on each crossover RM is still showing a direction arrow for each deleted point but it's the wrong way round. went into the design screen and removed the points with the bad arrows, and saved the plan.Opened it up again and put the point track pieces back without point symbols and saved it.Was hoping this would stop RM showing the incorrect direction arrrow but in my main screen it is still showing them which gets a bit confusing.. know i can just remove the point track piece from the crossover to stop it showing but would rather have the track plan looking right. Is there a way i can stop these arrows showing up Using hornby elite with RM & 8247 decoders
  13. yes i do have the 4 amp supply and thanks for your response and the info in the link. Makes it easy to understand how to set them up.
  14. been having some problems with the hornby R8216 & 8247 Accessory decoders and looking to try DCC concepts ads-8sx but this model not listed in the railmaster drop down box for decoder programming. there are some oher DCC concept models listed but not this particular one.. does this mean it won't work in railmaster or can i work around it
  15. you should easily be able to change windows from S mode to normal mode in settings which would solve your problem. google has the instructions on how to do.
  16. have a bachman loco and trying to read CV1 with my elite keeps returning XXX i know it'sset at no. 51 and i can select this loco on the elite and control its movement but any attempt at a CV read just gives XXX tried CV8 to 8 but no difference programming setup is working as can read other locos ok. understand different brands may use a different CV to reset but how can u tell what brand of decoder it is if u can't read any CV
  17. thanks for all the info.i need to try and sort this out as i have about 15 accessory decoders (mix of 8216 & 8247) and have so far only been able to get two working a few years back i had them all sorted and working thru railmaster but a bit rusty now on how i did it. Mostly seem to be able to program them and the 8247 readback with correct addresses but when i connect them to the main track power neither the elite or RM can make them operate. Sometimes i can get 1 port working but only in one direction. they are peco points and i have the green in the middle with the 8216 only supporting reg mode does this mean you can only program them with the elite and not RM even though they show as option in the drop down menu
  18. Having issues trying to get my accessory decoders to work. from what i can find on the forum 50/07 and higher should be 8247 and lower than 50/07 should be 8216 if this is correct have 4 that seem wrongly labeled Label stamp no. 8216 50/07 8247 10/12 8247 49/10 8247 35/12 Understand u can't read cv from 8216 so if railmaster can't read them guess they would be 8216 which is maybe why i'm having program issues as been trying to program as 8247
  19. ok thanks for the info. had never heard of zero1 before
  20. there is a hornby zero 1 with 10 accessory decoders for sale on ebay with a very low starting price. would it be compatible with current loco decoders and railmaster or is it to old.
  21. Thanks for all the advice Very helpfull. Just have to figure out now which is the best way to go
  22. don't think thet have a stay alive feature. The one i'm mostly testing with is a hornby steam which is marked hornby dcc in white on the bottom but there's nothing to say what model it is. tried to read CV1 with the booster disconnected but just get XXX no matter what CV i try and read yet the elite controls it fine on the main track using its number of 75 (have only ever used two digit numbers) i also have a select and was going to try with it but the Manual doesn't mention reading CV's so assume it can only write reprogramed the loco number with the select and now the elite can read CV1. have done three now and all the same.Elite will read CV1 after i reprogram the loco number with the select seems strange the elite will control them but can't read CV1 unless i reprogram them with the select. they were all originally programed with the elite
  23. Have a mix of hornby and aussie locos and can't seem to read CV1 on any of the hornbys but i can read my assie locos ok i have an elite with a soundtraxx PTB program booster and dedicated program track also have railmaster reading hornby CV1 reads XXX. some give a slight jerk when i try to read them. for the couple i can remember what number they are i can put them on the main track and the elite controls them fine. The program track is reading my other brand locos Austrains,Atlas without any probs any ideas why im having trouble with the hornbys
  24. thanks guys for the advice. I can't send a help request as when i open RM on the new PC all i get is a screen with the option to "Exit-Upgrade or Activate" and I can't get to anything else. as RM was running and activated on the old PC understand support must deactivate it before i will be able to do it on the new PC. so not sure if my error is a connection problem or support hasn't deactivated it yet Just frustrating when they don't respond Emailed HCC again tonight so hopefully they find out whats going on. it is a pc but once i get confirmation they have deactivated my copy i'll take it to work and try there if need be rgds, Geoff .
