  1. Thank you for all the advice and regular Forum visitors know I NEED a lot of help but none of you are going to believe this. I sorted it myself. Unbelievable ? Yes it is. All I did was to give my locomotive a new number on the DCC Select and load it. All I have to do now is not press F2 to sound the horn. Am I the MAN! Don't all cheer at once.
  2. Hello and help. I use a Hornby Select controller. I have a Class37 DCC fitted with sound. Today I pressed F2 to sound the horn but the horn stayed on! I tried the same tHing with another Hornby Select and the same thing happened. Therefore I think the problem is to do with the locomotive. I tried to reset the controller but it syaed the same. Can one of you clever chaps please help me. Thank you in advance. Cheers, Phil
  3. OK Thank you everybody for your help.'ve just found a Hornby C990 adaptor. Will using it sort my problem? Thanks again
  4. But before I send it off, let me ask a question and, bear in mind, I have no electronics knowledge at all is it possible to get a wall plug capable of more than 4 amps? Does such a thing exist? Thanks again for helping me with this. Cheers, Phil
  5. Thank you everybody. I think I may have to send this to Hornby for repair.
  6. I use a Hornby Select controller which has developed an intermittent problem where it appears to lose power. The display shows what appears to be the bits of some numbers which fade to nothing after a few minutes. I thought it might be a power problem so used another power cable from an old controller but the same thing happened. Can anybody help me, again. Cheers, Phil
  7. Hi, Good morning 96RAF, you and Chris have been brilliant and the reset has worked. Thank you both. I have to say sorry that I 've taken some time to get back to you. You see, I've suffered a stroke and my mobility is pretty awful. Anyway, it's done now but another problem has arrived and that's the sound function. To start the sound I press Function0. I try to press both buttons at the same time. Usually the screen either shows "On" or "Off" but now it doesn't. So I cannot fire up the sound. Any ideas?
  8. OK Thank you Chris. Cheers, Phil
  9. Thanks yet again, I'll do this tomorrow, Many thanks. Cheers, Phil
  10. Hello again, When I turned my Select On the only numbers that came up immediately were 30 followed by 03 followed by 11. I think 11 was the last code I tried to input onto the controller. Any ideas. Cheers, Phil
  11. OK Thank you for that although I'm not sure what it means as I have absolutely no knowledge of electronics. So I'll do what 96RAF has suggested later today. I'll come back for more advice if that fails. So fingers crossed.... Thank you to everyone in this Hornby Forum. The knowledge you have is incredible. Cheers, Phil
  12. Thank you for that. I'll do this in the morning. Cheers, Phil
  13. Hi, I've got a problem with my Hornby Select controller. Yesterday it was working perfectly allowing me to input code numbers for my locos. Today it isn't even powering my DCC locos and it is not allowing me to input code numbers. When I tryto do this the light on the controller flashes 8 times! It won't me to re-input numbers to the locos I have already installed. HELP!

    Horns

Hi, I've recently bought a Class37 loco from eBay. It works fine but a week after I bought it , the horn sound stays on. Any ideas? Cheers, Phil
  15. Thank you for the information. Do you know how I can power the track? Cheers, Phil
  16. Hi, I'm thinking of building an end to end cameo scheme which will basically be one line of track with points leading to multiple lines. So, with that in mind , does Hornby support N gauge and can anybody tell me how to provide power to the track. Please help me in a very simple fashion. I have suffered a stroke which has badly damaged my memory and concentration. And I was never any good with electrickery anyway! Thanks in advance of any help you can offer.
  17. OK Thank you for your answers. It's past my bedtime so I'll have a bash with your suggestions. Thanks. Cheers, Phil
  18. Hi, I tried to add a consist to my Hornby Select controller but made a mess - I had a stroke a few months ago and it has caused me to have problems with concentration and memory. After the failure to set a DCC code for the consist I tried to give a DCC code for my Class 37. I pressed the Select button and "LA" appeared on the controller. I then input a number (8) and pressed the Select button and the controller flashed 3 times. I then put "8" back on the controller: the loco didn't move and when I pressed "Select" again the number 2 appeared on the display. I changed the number to 8 and pressed "Select" again. This time the number 4 appeared in the display and the loco didn't move. I hope I have made this problem understandable and, as ever, I appreciate any help you can give me. For instance am I able to reset the controller? Cheers, Phil
  19. Hello, My son is thinking of buying the Hornby Junior Paddington set for my grandson's birthday. He will be 4. Any thoughts on it's suitability and performance? Does it use "normal" Hornby track? I've been developing a larger "normal" layout for my grandson for the past few years which he loves. For a 4 year old he's quite knowledgeable. He knows how to put trains on the track (which is still a wee problem for me - banana fingers). He knows how to set points and he recognises various trains - Class 37, HST, Eurostar, Class 800 and Flying Scotsman especially so I'm thinking a better buy for him would be a basic Hornby train set. Any comments are welcome. Thanks, Phil
  20. After almost 2 long years I've finally found the lay-out I'm happy with. So in the morning I'm going to start pinning it to my board. I'd appreciate any advice on the best way to do this. Should I pin alternate sections of track? For track pieces with 2 pin holes should I pin both holes or just 1. My local model shop (who know I'm prone to stupidity) have advised me not to push the pins fully into the board just in case I change my mind again. Thanks for any advice you can offer. Cheers, Phil
  21. Thank you chaps. Great help as usual. I think I've got it sorted now. Phil
  22. I'm having a problem with my controller. When I try to start a loco I get a flashing "EO" in the indicator window. This happens when I start the loco on the rerailer (R620) track. Any ideas ? Phil
  23. Hi, Thanks mjb1961 Cheers, Phil
  24. Hmmm, it looks like you have just put up a repeat post yourself. Have I committed some sort of crime? I wasn't aware of my repeat posts and I apologise to everybody who've had a problem. Now, is there any chance of somebody responding to my initial question? Cheers, Phil
  25. Hello, I recently had a go at ballasting my track. It was a disaster! How do they do it so easily on Youtube? I suppose the nasty stroke I had a few months ago didn't help as my hands now have a definite shake. Anyway , I've had to start again building a nice lay-out for my grandson and luckily I've got enough track to do this. I'm considering gluing the track to a cork underlay rather than pinning it. I'm planning to use Copydex for the job. Any advice or tips from you REAL modellers would be very welcome. Cheers, Phil
