  1. Hi,

    Four Britannia’s we’re allocated to the GC in 61/62 ,70015/14 and 70048/49.

Immingham she’d also had some at that time which could have worked over the GC.

Also the north country continental Norwich to Sheffield was worked by Britannia’s some times

  2. The 1.1size Kingfisher did haul the Flying Scotsman train in the 1950’s there is a photo in the Book of the A4’s, it could have been in blue/purple colour as Kingfisher was one of the chosen ones. Kingfisher also had a corridor tender of a A3 at the time.

  3. For my lift up section I have used the DCC Concepts Etched sleepers, cutting out the existing sleepers and replacing with the etched sleepers soldered to the rail and using the straight Tracksetta to keep everything in line. The Etched sleepers are pinned down, so there is no expansion into the lift up gap, but you must leave as Bulliedboy says at least a credit card gap.

So you should have the following, large gap, soldered Etched sleepers, large gap then repeat to come off the lift up section. Mine has just had a full week of mid 30's followed by this week where its a bit cooler in the mid to high twenties.

    Hope this helps

You could use copper clad sleepers.

  4. A Henderson’s box van from rails complete with a small bottle of Henderson’s, arrived within 10 days, Blue Merchant Navy from Kernow , has been in the postal system now for 4 weeks it will arrive one day. This pre order was cancelled by both rails and Hatton so looks I have one on the way.

Everything is taking a lot longer than usual.

  5. @Blue992

If the track plan has your interest go for it ! You know it has issues before you start. Treat yourself to a multimeter and go for it slowly, get one loop running at a time , and test , before adding a new section test then connect the new section and test. Test everything before and after be prepared to take things up .

Just think the rails are one red one black and they don't go together.

Accept the challenge and go for it .

  6. EM1 & EM2 both had four white lights , not very bright in the sixty's. Red lamp was provided by a oil lamp located left side when face on half way between the light and the window. Day time running sometimes had a white disk with a hole in for the light but this was very hit and miss.

  7. 30863 Lord Rodney , tried to escape through a new opening (glue had dryed out) wall had fallen off in the tunnel.l herd the derailment and looked up just in time to see it appear under the base board heading for the floor. The damage not as bad as first thought .

    1. Smoke box door off

    2. Chimney broke off , glued back on

    3. Tender buffer off pushed back in

    4. Tender hand rail lost some paint

    5. This got me going ,piece of green plastic , nothing missing , right hand cab door not the easiest piece to put back on , but glued in position after removing the tender body .

After much messing the wall in the tunnel is now screwed on no more escapes.

  8. Hi LC&DR.

Colour and Neepsend did not realy go ,down by the gas works etc. The name Acheson did not ring any bells at first , the sight is actually at Hillsborough on clay wheels lane ,which on the railway would be just passed Wadsley Bridge Station.

In 1966 we moved to the housing estate just across the river Don from Clay Wheels Lane, so much closer to the railway.

From Memory Clay Wheels lane had the following along the road firts was a bakery then two brewerys ,Police  stables /garage and right at the end was a engineering works Acheson. The only photo I have found is from the Worral end looking into Sheffield .

On GC memorys my Dads parents lived near Bridgehouse goods yard so a Sunday watching trains from on high , the wall was frighteningly high. My Mums parents lived at Tinsley there house was demo;ished to make way for the slip road to Tinsley roundabout. So happy hours sat on a wall looking at the Tinsley triangle waiting for said uncle to come home .

  9. Born in a house overlooking the GC about a mile west of Sheffield Victoria. On a clear day I could watch the procession of coal trains going west and the empty trains returning east  and ocasional passenger trains .

My Grandfarther and great Grandfather both worked for the GC / LNER my uncle was the black sheep of the family and worked for the LMS/BR/EWS, always said he was a midland man.

On the sheds around Sheffield you missed out Neepsend ,still traces of the shed . Grimesthorpe demolished for the new goods depot, burnt down a few yeras ago.Millhouses closed 1960ish later used by Guy Leas for making chucks for Electric drills, if you have a old bronze and gold Black and Decker drill check th name on the chuck. Lasted a few years after but derilict until replaced by a TESCO's.And last buy not least Canklow closed mid 60's the building lasted till the mid 80's

The ASDA at Handswoth my first Intruder alarm installation although I was still a apprentice we were that busy I was asked to run the job, good lunch times watching the trains come and go.

  10. Sorry about the blank icons did not come up and no key pad.

anyway I have five roads under my High street 4 through one long siding with four removable sections (soon to be 5) so its easy to look for the derailment. Also the first section of retaining wall is open so I can see into the tunnel and lastly reed switches in the roads so I can see progress through. All locos and guards vans/ brake vans have magnets fitted.

    again sorry about the blank.

  11. Just before total lockdoown I recived the following from the auction house selling my late uncles railway items.

Mainline Royal scot 46145 Duke of Wellingtons Reg't ,

This stood ontop of his TV for years as it was his regiment when on national service.

Collett 3205 a fave loco since Dart valley days , unfortuantly the gears are broke on this so it needs a new motor.

Fairburn tank loco in LMS , will need renumbering and lining to fit with my southern locos.

I missed out on a couple of others and a couple of kits.

    keep safe

    Derek
