  1. Somehow my response ended up being just a copy of the Post I was responding to.... sigh... What I would hope to see is a wireless DCC system... An elink2 with a WiFi adapter built in (no more USB) - and an update to Railmaster to talk to the elink2 and decoders via WiFi... (or Bluetooth) Then Wireless Decoders... preferably with onboard batteries/capacitors.... get power from the track, keep the actual data stream standard DCC, plug into the existing decoder pins (and stay with current decoder formats so locos can easily be upgraded) - Smartphone Throttle software to talk either direct to the elink2 or the DCC decoders. Last "nice to have" would be a Wifi (or Bluetooth) wireless throttle, which can take the place of the smartphone software throttle, while providing really good "feel" rather than a touch screen... true analogue dial control, with a digital back end - and if it integrates with existing systems via Railmaster that would be lovely!
  2. Hi, On normal login to the website, the Hornby Club link simply takes me to the "purchase a Club membership" screen... It would be hugely helpful (and very user friendly!) - to have a link on the Menu's which allows Club members direct access to the club section without having to refer to an external link reference... Thank you
  3. Thanks folks... Was looking at various TT's - with a preference for those that don't need a hole (at least to start off with)... Also prefer TT that can be matched up with a roundhouse.... - Which led me to the Bachmann and the Thomas series Tidmouth sheds. Not a lot of choices when you plug in those variables. Also needs to be RM friendly with DCC control.... (sounds like a good spot to fit one of the Hornby 4pin decoders.... when I upgrade that loco with a more flexible decoder) But I may just drop the Roundhouse requirement, as it seems all too hard in OO... in which case it would lead me straight back to the Hornby TT...
  4. Hi folks, Has anyone controlled non hornby dcc turntables? ( with railmaster... ) Particularly the bachmann one ? Thanks
  5. I'm with you! There are dean singles, dean goods and some associated rolling stock. If you focus on the pre wwi decade, there are quite a few, mostly due to the rolling stock still being in use 30 years later in many cases... But earlier liveries are rare... Would be great to see more of it.
  6. That makes sense.... thank you RAF for the update... I had checked quite a few online retailers, all of which had "out of stock" or "pre-order"... At present programming with RM and running with the Select is working fine, but the Elite would make things easier.
  7. Hi raf Yes I tried that, but the most gradual accel/deccel I could get was far more expeditious than desired. ( stops within an engine length or 2) hence the disappointment. But if you tell me that a better response should be possible, I will recheck my cv's and try reprogramming....
  8. Hi folks, I have a 4f missing a body screw ( loco ). Can anyone tell me what type screws they are ? Metric m2 ?
  9. Hi Folks, anyone know if there is a particular reason why the Elite Controller stock has been left to rundown? They are hard to find, and prices are becoming silly (I am seeing people selling them New for well over the retail price!). Also various hornby digital accessories seem to have been left to runout as well. Are Hornby planning something in the digital space? Or are we just waiting for some container loads of kit to be delivered from a chinese factory!...
  10. Hi Folks, A bit of a grumble... We got the Western Mater set for my son - with elink/railmaster etc... All good, he has been running it. But when compared to some of the other Locos I have, fitted with 3rd party decoders (DCC Concepts and LaisDCC) - the acceleration/decceleration settings are woeful... So I took it appart thinking I will swap in an alternate decoder.... 8pin, or 6pin I thinks to myself.... but no - it is a 4pin plug in..... a complete Non-Standard.... So to fit an alternate decoder I need to rewire it with a 6 or 8 pin harness (or hardwire...) I am disapointed with the decoders adjustability in terms of Acc/Decceleration in an otherwise good product - such a simple thing to get right! (and yet...)
  11. Possibly a silly question, but why are people averse to having dc capability enabled?
  12. Hi, I have a hornby/airfix fowler 4f... Tender drive, with tyres... pickups on loco. Has anyone replaced the wheels with non-tyres versions ? Yes I know I would sacrifice traction...
  13. Well, some success has been had... With CV2=0, CV5=50 and CV6=20.... BUT.... I reprogram the CV's, then go back to previous settings, and my results change !?! Right now I am not sure whether something funky is going on with the algorithms in the decoder, or whether it is in RM... Top scale speed (58kph) has varied from circa 67kph down to 47kph - for no logical reason that I can discern... Does BackEMF mess with "stuff"? The speeds for Cruise and Top Speed are at around the right levels - Shunt speed has varied from a best of 27kph to worst of 37kph (all with the same CV settings - but after complete halt and reprogramming) Starting setting on RM is 5kph - I cannot seem to get it to start at the lowest 2kph setting. - and that measures at scale 16kph. All things considered, with RM set to scale speed, the Pocket rocket is relatively tame. Really need to understand how the decoder interprets the settings, and the interactions with RM better - might result in more consistency. But the settings I have used here might give someone else a head start (and save hours of measurement and experimentation).
  14. Hi Folks, Could use a little help... The Pocket Rocket is an R2672 0-4-0 Saddle Tank (Caledonian Railway 272). Running Railmaster/elink... loaded the matching configuration. DCC Decoder is LaisDCC By Default the prototype speeds worked out to be shunt16kps = 48kph, Cruise = 128kph Max=155kph First cut at changes was to use LaisDCC defaults for a steam loco ( CV3 = 20, CV4 = 24, CV5 = 188, CV6 = 60, CV61 = 1) This moved things to (prototypical speed) Shunt=27kph Cruise=64kph Max=79kph I then tried to work with the CV2 start Voltage.... (turned off scale speeds first) I crept up the CV starting at 10, got to 45.... but nothing would start the little bugger at that first speed step (2kph on Railmaster) On all of these settings the loco would start at 3kph Does the 2kph setting on RM even do anything? My target is to ger the loco within 10% of prototype speed ... current settings are out of sight better than default! Any help appreciated. Bye for now
  15. I think possibly a revamp of hornby's dcc control range... A number of items in the range have become scarce ( reverse loop... ), there are rumours of the elite controllers being unavailable... Perhaps symptoms of a new series of controllers, software and accessories about to launch. Maybe the long awaited loco detection included. And personally, I would love to see more of a focus on the late 19th century... stuff with real character! ( which would also require appropriate scenery items, figures, horse/carriages and carts etc... )
