  1. Have you drained it? Yes, the valve to drain it is the same valve to reduce the air pressure so it is more or less constantly draining. In any case there is no water sitting in it. If im right in thinking that you have a revell standard class compressor (this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Revell-39137-Compressor-Standard-Colour/dp/B000FCMSEY/ref=asc_df_B000FCMSEY/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=428142280925&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14347329770014271427&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007216&hvtargid=pla-588366961845&psc=1&th=1&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=101213693442&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=428142280925&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14347329770014271427&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007216&hvtargid=pla-588366961845) Then the valve to drain the moisture trap looks different to the one that changes the airpressure. I may be wrong however. My compressor has a valve at the bottom the moisture trap and to change airpressure is a totally different part. If what you are saying is correct, that the moisture trap is empty and there is still water coming out, then im afraid i have to more to add. Where are you spraying if i may ask? This country? In the garage? That may help in understning whats going wrong. Hope this helps, will
  2. I use the sparkax max-4 and i can assure you now that it is not something you need to worry about throwing around...The quality of this thing is incredible and given the price, i dont know why it doesnt get mor limelight! Anyway, onto your problems! 1. You should be able to spray these paints through your airbrush een though they ar not "airbrush paints". You just need to thin them to a milky consistency. From what ive heard, when got right, revell aqua and humbrol acrylics spray beautifully. Yes you should be using thinners indtead of water. Prefferably the brand thinner of the brand paint you are using. In theory, water should work for acrylic paints, however it is never as good. For cleaning, all i can offer is Vallejo airbrush cleaner, it works a dream with all acrylics (proper acylics) that ive sprayed. 2. Moisture spitting out of your airbrush is fixed by having amoisture trap on your compressor. If you dont have one, never fear....as cheap ones can be bought that you can simpy then attach you air hose to and away you go. You can research those. As well, where you spray is important to counteract moisture. Good airflow can help and not spraying in super humid conditions is a good call. Depending where you are in the world, sometimes this cant be avoided. 3. In terms of cleaning the sparmax max-4, heres what i do...Between colour changes, I spray 50% water 50% vallejo airbrush cleaner mix until it comes through almost clean. Then a couple swishes of water and onto a new colour. At the end of a build ill strip the airbrush and give it a good clean. (Not necesarry after every build but I have slight Airbrush OCD). Just Remove the needle (clean that carefully) and then give the nozzle and paint cup a good clean with airbrush cleaner. Letting the nozzle soak for a while is a decent idea too. When i started airbrushing, cleaning was an obsession of mine but youll grow to learn that it is a tool and tools are used a lot. As long as the paint cup and needle are clean, chanes are your nozzle if pretty clean to. If you ever get a paint spluttering issue, then you know to clean the nozzle area (it can only be from around there). Wow...that was a lot! Hope it helps a little. Feel free to ask any more questions. Will
  3. Some sad news to wak up to...I was planning to make the trip up for the first time this year but 2021 will be bigger and better i imagine. 😀
  4. How about trying vallejo airbrush thinner. The vallejo thinner medium is very odd and i dont quite know why it even exists. The airbrush thinner works just as well with model colour as it does with model air. I use Model air through my airbrush with jsut a touch of thinner but i use model colour again with a dash of thinner to paint figures. Model colour is not an extremely thick paint as you have come to believe. It actually behaves wuite nicely and thinned to 60:40 ish ratio, it brushes beautifully...Also however well you apply paint, the use of the hairy stick has its limits, you may have to come to terms with that. Hope that helps.
  5. A post on the Airfix instagram page says there is an update coming on Friday (tomorrow). Just a heads up!
  6. Completed this build last week, its a beautiful kit really. My only complaints are to do with the landing gear, it is an afwul join that they expect you to get but a little super glue does the job. Finally the oil tank over does not fit well either ( it looks at first to be for a griffon version ) but with a little patience, sanding and dry fitting, it will fit well any day of the week! /media/tinymce_upload/ef3765de0fe9101538b27c37b0a5189b.JPG /media/tinymce_upload/a0f183447d3eddf92aa19cbad0070810.JPG /media/tinymce_upload/751e200a3b5e25c94e4e94d188592a70.JPG /media/tinymce_upload/66ba57999bd332af81c7c7e6ece25c0c.JPG

  12. Hello again, Does anybody know whether the wheel wells of this aircraft (the air sea and rescue) should be painted aluminium like early spitfires, cockpit green or medium sea grey like the underside of the aircraft? Its dated 1944 but I dont know if that is just when it began serving as an air sea and rescue aircraft. Not overly fussed but would be nice to know. Will
  13. Will, I think it is also imprtant to note that things work better or worse for different people. I find that Vallejo primer is really actually quite solid, it cures to be rock hard and I use it on all of my models. Paul however prefers Mr.Surfacer. The most important thing thaat I have learned from this forum is that no matter how many tips and tricks you get, the best option is always to just try. Whatever is available to you, whether it be Humbrol 01 primer (BTW don't ever put that stuff through your airbrush) or the expensive Mr.surfacer, just give it a go. At the end of the day, you cant really have a bad outcome. If you learn something new, I'd say thats a positive! 😀
  14. This kit had a lot of firsts for me. First time using an airbrush, first jet, first time using photoetch, first time rigging some wire. Anyway its the the Eduard Mig-15bis 1/72. /media/tinymce_upload/e98151431e18e474ae0e8866f4c12ac9.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/3fd037f60945d026658cbdefaff415a8.jpg
  15. I have just recieved a wash from Flory Models, they are clay based and are supposedly super easy to use (I'll be the judge of that 😉) In terms of what you have, I would look into your chalk pastels. Try shaving some of it off and add water and a one drop of washing up liquid. The washing up liquid breaks the water tension meaning it will flow like a wash, but you need to water it down to a thin enough consistency so that it flows well. Remember its a wash, not a paint. Try this on an old model or a part of the model that you are unlikely to see. I have been using a wash formula similar to this but with a pigment not chalk pastels but I don't see why it woulden't work. The best thing you can do is try...
  16. Thanks guys...Ill have a hunt around and see if I can find some!
  17. Thanks Paul, I tried again today and it was fine. I got some help from a lad on Instagram who said that unless they are thinned to 50:50 ratio then they behave funnily. What is old formulea Klear is it a humbrol product.
  18. So today I needed to gloss cote my Mig to then put decals on. I used VMA gloss varnish and it totally clogged my airbrush. Like totally clogged it. I had to take everything apart, and it all peeld out like when you peeled PVA glue from your hands as a kid. Does anyone have any suggestions on what varnishes to use. I would prefer to use something non toxic. I really would not like to put that stuff through my airbrush again, it was a real hassle to clean out. Any tips are appreciated.
  19. Thanks Paul, I going to make a start as soon as the final things arrive!
  20. Thanks Paul, Im just waiting on some cleaner to arrive and then i can crack on with a new build. Also, whats the benefit of using a crown cap over the regular needle cap that is on there at the moment?
  21. My Airbrush, compressor and necessary paints for the next build have arrived. I put some air through the airbrush after lettign the tank fill up and it all works beautifully. However I have two questions: 1.To release excess pressurised air in the tank after use, can I simply remove the hose and let it flow out at high pressure or will this do damage? 2. Also my airbrush has a present handel (Sparmax Max-4). I understand that this can set a limit the amount of colour flow to avoid over shooting but is there a setting i should have it on to begin with and make it easier to start with. I could then fiddle around with it later i suppose but should it be fully in or partially out idk? Thanks will
  22. Thanks. I could have worked out those colours, I just wasn't concentrating and listed off the colours from the markings sheet. sorry
  23. Wow how had i not found this...I think I may have seen every conversion and colour chart under the sun except for this one. Thank you very Much.
  24. Ok that would be great. Ill give you humbrol colours if thats ok and then could you put them into VMA? - 24 Matt Yellow - 33 Matt Black - 30 Matt Dark green - 54 Gun Metal - 90 Matt Beige Green - 106 Matt Ocean grey - 165 Medium Sea Grey I also need an appropriate grey for the cockpit of a MIG-15bis that is next on the bench...any suggestions? I really appreciate the help. Thanks, will
