  1. Hi, So what's the hole on the bottom for, and the securing bar. Doesn't look like any slotcar design I've seen before, Airfix or any other make? I do agree its a Gulf 917, sort of knew that anyway, just can't find anything on line that looks like this. Cheers
  2. Hi there, I recently had a sort out in my Mum's loft and found a box of old models that I had when I was younger. Amongst the plans was this car, it is Airfix, obviously a Porsche, but I can't work out what it is due to the bottom, that looks like a space for a cartridge or something? Looks like some wind up car with steering and drive to the back wheels. Any ideas anybody? Cheers
  3. Hi Inkpen, All the photos I have seen show the cockpit in mid to dark grey, but from what I've read, there was a lot of colour variation.
  4. That's looking nice Ratch, certainly is a big aircraft once its all together. Are you doing the white or Camo version. I finished mine last night, pretty pleased with it, maybe a few things I'd do differently. I did fit aftermarket pitots and refueling nozzle though which do look better. I will say the model fits together very well, only join that needed a bit of work was the front of the wing section where it joins the top of the fuselage, but it was minor and only needed a little filing to sit it snug. Good luck with the painting. Here's mine finished monster!
  5. I live near Manston and the museum there has got a Victor cockpit, you can stick your head in to have a look! Wow it seems so cramped and dark, certainly cant see much out the front! As RodC says, once the fuselage halves are put together, you probably wont be able to see any of the cockpit, but I just can't resist doing it properly even though you cant see it...Leaving the crew door open will hopefully help. Can't imagine how uncomfortable is was in the South Atlantic 96RAF, that was an amazing set of missions, still amazes me how it was done.
  6. Hi Ratch, I've just started exactly the same Victor for a collector of V bombers. So far so good, I think the model is excellent, good job Airfix! Chewy
  7. Hi Peter, For years I was an avid enamel paint user and turned my nose up at acrylic paints. However about 3 years ago I made the swap and haven't looked back! I still use a few enamels for some small detail work, but everything else is acrylic, it is simply so easy to use. I think its only Humbrol and Revell that produce enamels now, whereas everybody else, including them do Acrylics. I use an airbrush for most of my stuff and mainly use Vallejo Air Acrylics, they have a massive range and its pre mixed for airbrush work, but can be brushed as well. Anyway, enjoy your return to modelling, you'll find the models have got a lot better as well! Anymore info you need on glues, fillers etc, just ask. Regards Chewy
  8. If you still have the moulds, please re release the 1/72 E boat Airfix grinning
  9. Just finished this great 1/48 Sea Fury, what a great model! I'm usually a 1/72 man, but I got this with a voucher I won on the Airfix website. I love the Sea Fury just for its sheer brutality and powerful look, and this models shows that off to perfection.
  10. Lovely models guys! I have to admit Biplanes have always scared me off due to the rigging, so good job.
  11. That's a great looking model, excellent work.
  12. Hi, I picked this Grumman Martlet up at a clearance day at the Airfix shop in Margate before the dreaded Pandemic. I got round to making it a week or so ago and decided to give it a little weathering, think it came out well for such a small model. Great little kit to build.
  13. Hi, What I do is similar to sailorman. I use 6mm Tamiya masking tape, cut it into 1-2mm strips and then frame all the areas of the canopy to be masked. Then I fill in the middles with masking tape, and finally trim of any loose ends. On larger aircraft with many windows I resort to using Eduard canopy masks, I get them from Hannants usually, well worth the money on something like an He111. Hope that helps
